In town today and got approached by a guy from Florida that lost his vehicles. Asked if I would be interested in selling it. Said sure, for the right price. He's said he'd call on Monday morning to make arrangements. So right now, "Toyota, I'm loving it!"

I have been trying to get my daughter interested in getting a Rav4 or an older RX350 but she does not seem much interested. I made the mistake of saying let's try an Audi.
She liked the Audi Q5 and not so much the BMW X1. I am still trying to get her to like a Toyota/Lexus product for the reliability factor but it is an uphill battle.

I'm on my third Lexus IS300. Had an 01, 05, now an 03. I buy them with 75-95k mi and drive them to 250k.

It's a dead reliable 3,200 lb sport sedan that has a 5-speed, inline 6 and RWD.

Definitely recommend these as an inexpensive and nice driving car. Drives more like a Japanese BMW 3-series and is built like a Camry.

Question is, my daughter is getting to the age where she will be needing a car, and I thought I'd start doing some research. I know nothing of the Toyota line, having never owned one before, but you can't argue with the Camry being the best selling car in the US for, like, ever...or can you?

I've read with interest the previous threads on "best car for a new driver" and didn't see Toyota as well represented as some others...buying used for sure.
Well this thread was a kiss of death. I'm sitting here waiting for a tow truck as I lost steering. I found the reservoir low after spotting a puddle on the ground. Refilled it but no joy. I guess it's the pump. Sigh

edit: home now and hoping it's just the pump.

Lots of folks willing to tell how reliable theirs is. Nobody mentions that they do anything well. Hmmm.

It's kinda obvious - they provide reliable transportation. That's what they do well.

Ok, I have a couple of complaints about the Venza.
No pass through from the cargo area to the back seats for skis.
No factory rack for the cars with the glass sunroof system.

That's it.

Interesting that they have stopped selling the Venza. It was quite a popular awd car up in Canada. Other manufacturers sell similar style vehicles maybe that segment of the market was saturated.

a reasonable observation.

personally believe their trucks are in most ways the best out there. also believe nearly every other vehicle they make is bleh.

Just got back from spending a few days in the CO back country. This Toyota handles off the beaten path very well..
Engineer Pass out of Silverton headed to Lake City. It's an interesting drive when dry, add ice and the fun really begins..

Also traveled the premative road that runs thru Great Sand Dunes Nat.Park.

I drove a 2001 toyota tundra and loved it, not too big, just right. Almost sporty.
but the brakes sucked big time. they'd fade on a small hill and the rotors warped if you looked at them wrong. Other than that I loved it.
traded it in on a 2007 tundra, loved it but it ate front tires and turned into a bucking bronco on concrete freeways.

Sold it when I bought a furd F-150.
the furd is not built quite as well as the toyota, doesn't drive quite as well, doesn't do anything better than the toyota, but it doesn't do anything BADLY.
It works. It does it's job. I don't dislike it at all. But I ain't in love with it either.
Kinda comfortable but I keep thinking about buying something new.
Like an old girlfriend who is on the verge of over-staying her welcome.

The wife had a sienna a long time ago, great vehicle. Smooth, quiet, reliable and comfortable and practice transportation.
But she saw the new (then) honda pilot and just had to have one. it was fine.

5 years later she had to have a nissan murano, and realized what I had been telling her was true. the nissan was just a little bit less than the toyota. it was still good but not quite as good as the toyota. Little things.

So after driving the murano for 5 years she bought a new rav4.
Which BTW I HATE!

I'm not sure if it has badly tuned suspension, or if they put the loudest tires on it they could find, or if the internal shape has identical harmonic characteristics as a base drum. or is that bass drum?
But it is LOUD in that thing.

We took it to Ariz. a couple months ago, by the time we got home I had a huge headache and literally wanted to jump out of that car.
I told her we'll never take it on a trip again.

But she likes it, go figure.

I'd buy a new Tacoma if it hadn't grown to be larger than my 1977 full sized Dodge pickup.
