I like the phone app. idea or have an excuse thought up to get away. "My wife and I are watching a show that starts in 2 minutes."

Be polite, distant, and unavailable.

Sort of like my first girlfriend.

Let them know (via someone else) that you have a very nasty, highly contagious, anti-biotic resistant disease. Tuberculosis sounds about right.

Cough a few times next time you see them.

That may help.

Or, you could have your wife ask them "if you seem ok?"

She responds to their question about you with mumbles and words like "violent paranoia" or "sociopath." "Involuntary psychiatric hospitalization" has a nice ring to it as well

Good luck. My last two neighbors were reasons to move.

Just tell him you have AIDS, and look all sickly. That usually gets idiots recoiling pretty quickly.

If he tries to engage you in conversation, excuse yourself and tell him there is something you need to attend to. Do that enough times and he will get the message.

Me and my neighbors usually just wave, smile, and go about whatever it is we are doing. Talk maybe four or five times a year, not often and usually not long. We all have things to do.

One late evening a little after dark last week both next door neighbors, the neighbors across the street and the 2nd house down on either side came over and talked in my driveway for about 30 minutes. That was a BIG gathering and rarely happens. Was messing in the yard and it got dark on me. Noticed the next door neighbor and asked if he had heard the Great Horned Owl that roosts in the top of my Cottonwood tree. He went in and got his wife, they came over and stood in the driveway to listen. That made the others curious and they all kind of wandered over to see what was going on. Have had Great Horned Owls roosting and hooting at night in that tall cottonwood for almost 20 years. Neighbors on either side had been there since before I moved in and never noticed. Discussed we used to have a few pairs of rabbits that would sit out in the front yards of an evening and now there is only one rabbit. Decided to keep their small pets indoors after dark.

Thought it was interesting because I had a pet Great Horned Owl from when I was 8 until I graduated HS.

So, pretty much back to just smiling and waving.

hurricane's are a way to get to know the neighbors
we ran power cords across the street when we got power back and they did not
then when we lost power they got a generator and returned the favor

fake turrets syndrome. the more twitching, swearing and Disney references the better. you can make it more legit by turreting a few things now & again when they are in their yard with in ear shot.

the Disney references will have the parents considering it might interest the kids to listen closer. "DANCE DANCE DANCE!! FUCH-FUCH-FUCH!! WHORE BASTARD!! STOP IT'S RIPPING!!! LION KING!!!"

my neighbor has turrets & is the best neighbor ever! I always know when he's outside & he will never sneak up on me..

I walked over to my neighbor to make sure they were OK and let them know I was here if they needed anything.

We both had generators but they didn't have any provisions for AC. So I started to explain about the window unit concept. I was only there for 3 minutes.

All of a sudden she blurts out..."OK that's enough...my nerves are shot and you're not helping matters..."

He said "Thanks for coming over and checking on us."

Send a message via AIM to vash
so he needs to conjure up a hurricane?

but seriously, i had a neighbor like that. always trying to organize block parties (and i got roped into the king's share of duties - i had to fry chicken in the culdesac one year). i just kept at it. being friendly, at their approaches, but not really approaching them that much. it was awful when they got our phone numbers. some people are just overly friendly..that is a billion times better than being a total a-hole neighbor. eventually we all reached "equilibrium" in the hood.
