The complaints I heard were that Barcelona itself was not fun (always make my own fun), the weather was too hot and the event was not well run. Nothing but raves about Mugello though.

No plans to go anywhere. Since we retired people keep asking if we are going to travel now. No. Spent 30 years traveling. If I never see the inside of another airplane I'll be happy.
But my friend in Portugal was in town last month. Invited us back to Lisbon for a few weeks. That might be worth the pain of air travel.

Heading to Asheville N.C area in June for a week. We rented a 5 bedroom luxury cabin on the South side of the national park we are sharing with family. Plan to tour "Wheels through Time" motorcycle museum, do alot of hiking/sightseeing in the Smokeys/skyline drive area, maybe check out tail of the dragon, and Gatlinburg.

Taking my new to us, 2003 Excursion 6.0L diesel Limited, so no spirited driving on curvy roads.

Heading to Portland this weekend for some nice hiking and a baby shower. Will be nice to get out of LA to go exploring and see some family!

We took our high school age kids to London this past Christmas. Stayed in Airbnb near Hammersmith Underground, 2 bedroom flat for just over $200 per night. Had full kitchen and laundry.

The landlord had the flat decorated for Christmas and even had a tree up for us.

I've never been keen on the Airbnb but this made me change that thought. Room to spread out, ability to cook some meals, do laundry, etc. Much easier to wind down at night than in a simple hotel room. And getting that much size in hotel room would easily run over $500 per night if not double that number.

Anyone been to Mauritius, Seychelles or Sri Lanka?

Interested to hear your thoughts as I'm having trouble choosing

I was in Sri Lanka a couple years ago for around 4 days. There are a couple tourist spots where 90% of the visitors go, but beyond that, not much there. Very, very rough infrastructure. Can't recommend too highly.

We just booked an all inclusive resort in Jamaica for a full week in mid December....Sandals South Coast for our 30th wedding anniversary. We have been to several different resorts in Mexico, and Dominican Republic as well, and are returning to our favorite, this time with friends !

Yeah, our train from Aix to Barcelona was cancelled. Had to hire a driver / van to take us - $pendy. Turned out our driver was friends with my Winery partner cousin’s son. Small world, and a good story.

Instead of starting a new thread I am going to post questions here.

In September 2019 my wife and I celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Mrs5543 has expressed her desire to vacation in Santorini Greece we are now gathering info on the location, we plan on spending 3-4 days on the Island.

I am asking if anyone has been there and can give suggestions regarding lodging, sights and dining that we should look into.

We are VERY freestyle people, we hate schedules and itineraries we prefer to wander and take things as they come to us. We did this in Ireland last year having no idea where we would end up or where we would sleep and it was unforgettable.

We had a few spots we knew we wanted to hit, then everything else we just winged it.

That said, any input would be welcome. We are not party type people (hence skipping Mykanos) we prefer a more laid back local scene.

Yes we are already boning up on some Greek so we may be somewhat able to communicate in native tongue when we get there 1.5 years from now.

I was there recently and absolutely LOVED my hotel and its location. Give me a bit to dig up hotel name. Santorini is cool.... lots of walking to explore the cliff-side towns. Take the local bus to other cities, including getting a shot of the most famous spot on the island, with the blue-domed churches.

Dana Villas and Suites. Very reasonably priced and a good location. There are better spots, but expect to pay much, much more.
