A friend walked past the house and heard my girlfriend saying "I LOVE you" kiss kiss kiss. and he said to me you are so lucky. I replied, she wasn't talking to me she was talking to the dog.

Sorry, to me it sounds like you, your dog, AND the daycare staff ALL need trained better.

You don't just let a dog loose in a group of dogs that has not been around a group of dogs. They will get amped up and want to play and interact with the other dogs without any constraint.

Your dog is not socialized.

It sounds like your doggie day care staff do not know how to, or do not want to take the time to socialize your dog.

You can google and I am sure you will find a lot on how to socialize your dog. It is just a matter of keeping the dog under control on a leash and not allowing the dog to do anything unless it is calm, and taking control and making it sit next to you if it starts getting excited. Since the dog has already gone bonkers, it will take a little longer to teach the dog that behavior is not wanted.

No. My dog has been going there a lot. Just something changed that day. He usually just follows the human around ignoring dogs. When my backyard was gettting remodeled he went there two weeks straight. No issues.

But I admit, I can do better. I’m already started. Wife and I need to get on the same page.

I don't know what to say to that. Sounds weird for your dog to suddenly become too excitable.

I've always follow a book I read when in HS written by a trainer that train most all of the Disney movie animals. If the dog has a behavior you don't like, train them to do it on command. Then when they get where consistently do it on command, just stop giving the command.

I've done that with several behaviors like digging, growling when approached while eating, barking when people come to the door, etc.

Kinda funny with the growling thing. I would say "can I have it" and reach towards her head but not enough to make her snap. Eventually got to where I just made a fist beside her head. Then it got to where I could even take her food without her growling as long as I didn't make a fist. Also when I was out somewhere people would ask if she bites. I would say oh I don't know while making a fist without the person seeing me and the dog would show her teeth and growl. As soon as I unclenched my fist she would stop. Only did that to people that asked if she would bite.

That is interesting...was there a sexy French poodle named Fifi there that day ?

Been reading about Hank since you got him, but don't recall his approximate age...

We have 10 acres to run on with no leashes unless we go camping around other dogs. My Aussie generally "patrols" the property whenever we let him out, and may be 1000' away looking along a treeline, but always returns, and is pretty good indoors. My daughter brings her 2 year old German Shepard down for a good run, and does about the same.

The "over stimulation" comes from being around other dogs with too much energy. I think you may need to change up your walking/dog park routine to cure this.

he picks up on it super fast. i dont do jack squat until he calms down and sits his ass down. it took 10 mins for me to put down his food bowl. he was calm, but not sitting.

this morning.he was waiting at the food rug..ass on the ground. he didnt flinch until i okayed the bowl of food..just sat there lazer eyes on me.

game on dog!! (he is the new "bamboo")

I agree on the heeling part. They need to walk next to you, their shoulder next to your leg, slack leash. They need to follow every command after you say it just once. Their name then command. Their name is not the command. They need to know when its play time and rest time but they always have to follow your command. Its like raising kids, consistency, reward good behavior, redirect unwanted behavior. Dogs want to please their masters, your job is to show them how and what to do. The rest of the family has to be consistent as well.

PS - I never use treats. I want them to perform for me, not for the treat. I always remember a dog trainer saying - "when they do something right, give them a party".

I never do either...unless they have big brown eyes . They're not necessary, but I do use 'em....once trained, moot issue....they still get 'em though....I'm a well trained Alpha

This was a trip to a baseball game with a dog we raised for the seeing eye. All these dogs were still puppies.

This is sort of universal.

Issue is more apparent in high energy dogs.

thanks for the VIDEO!! i have been doing this to a"T"..it is working!!

i dropped him off at daycare today.and every opening..i didnt open a door unless he was sitting and calm. he just understands "the look" now..i pause, he sits. UNBELIEVABLE!!

he got two days of dog training as well. this morning at dark-thirty. we both freezed our asses off but he was heeling very well. i didnt even look in the direction of his favorite frisbee park. dog trainer wants to see us at 7:30 on a group dog walk this saturday. we'll be there.

the past two days, he has not been over stimulated at the dog place. all better. thanks. it doesnt help that i put so much pressure on myself to have the perfect dog. i'm a lunatic.
