garage doors quote - is this reasonable/fair ?

So my man cave build I will need two overhead garage doors . I had a local guy come give me a quote . He's 3rd generation garage door installer so I have no doubts on his ability . We talked car stuff for an hour while he was here . Anyway here is what I need and his quote , I'm not looking for the cheapest but just want to make sure we're in the " fair ballpark " .

1.Two standard white insulated raised panel doors 10 ' tall x 9 ' wide with windows in top panel . Windows have no dividers just the glass .

2.I will purchase two Chamberlain wall mount jackshaft door openers and he will install them.

3.He stated he uses commercial quality door track/hardware vs. residential quality so I'm assuming heavier duty.

Total price $2500.00 . Would like some feedback on if that price is in the ballpark ? I tried going on HD and Lowe's websites but couldn't get pricing on 10 x 9 . Tried CL and couldn't get a firm price from anyone there either . I'm about 4 - 6 weeks away from needing the doors so I have time to shop around if needed . I forgot the name of the doors he said he would use but he said they are NOT entry level doors more mid pack for quality/price .

I have just under 12 ' ceiling so they will be mounted close to the ceiling . I asked him if an extension kit would be needed he said no . With the 10 ' door height and the standard radius of the door track he said it would be close to the ceiling anyway . I'm assuming center mounted door springs . Just need another set of eyes to help me with the pricing . Thanks

First to pricing: $1250 per door doesn't seem bad with glass in one panel as long as this is an insulated door which being on your man cave I'm assuming it will be.

Why not just install the doors yourself? It's really not rocket science. The first one, there will be a learning curve. The second one will be easy. I have Clopay doors in my garage that utilize "residential" quality tracks. Over 20 years old and still humming along. The biggest difference if I had to guess would be plastic versus steel rollers.

BTW, you might want to check to make sure he's using external springs as I think the chamberlain jackshaft opener requires that type of spring. I don't think they can be used on internal torsion spring type doors IIRC.

If you want a price check, write the specs down and get a couple other quotes. I'm not in your part of the world, and I haven't bought a door in a long while, but smaller doors of good quality were at least a grand each, so I think you're probably good.

Still, one way to find out. Estimates are free. That's the kind of think you do on days when it's too cold to work outside.

You are definitely in the 'ball park' for the area.

I have to wonder if your stats are off. A 10 foot tall door for a garage is something I never saw in a home.

Ummm no I know how to read a tape measure I wanted 10 ' tall doors to get as much usable space through the doors . I wanted 9 ' width so my dually pickup would fit in either bay without having to fold the mirrors in . I agree with you they are not standard size doors .

I agree it's not rocket science to do myself but something I have never done before . And I have never installed a jackshaft type of opener . Sure I can save a few bucks doing myself but I think I'll have the pro do it and be done with it . Appreciate the feedback .

Purchased a Clopay insulated steel door 7x9 with insulated glass in November. Went with a torsion track. Price was around $1100 installed.
Yours doesn't seem that far off from that with custom sizing.

This summer I had 9' wide and 16' wide doors installed. Two locations, so it wasn't easy for the installer. $2100. I'd say you are doing well at $2500 for the size of doors you are getting.

garage doors are not hard to put up.
first one I did was a 16ft door. did it by myself.

the thing I hate is the door openers that hang down in the middle of the garage.
the one for this one was a bar above the door, the motor mounted above the door. took about 10mintues to put up. no unistrut to put up.

I got the brackets to mount the rails from Fastenal. much much cheaper than lowes.

I don't know if anyone makes that garage door opener anymore,. it was a wayne Dalton opener.

Those are great openers. I have the same, very quiet. You can even operate from a smartphone app. Great when you're a few miles down the road and think "Did I close the garage door?".

that's not what I have but the same idea.
they are THE bomb!!

mine has a long rod that slides thru the motor. the rod has the spring inside. then on each end of the rod there are cables that run down to the bottom of the door.
4 screws mount it to the wall, plug it in and you are done!!

my door also has the safety sensor in the bottom of the door. no "beams" or other electronics to mount.

In May 2016 I paid $1050 for 7x16 insulated door installed. I think your quote is fair.
Then I installed the same opener you're going to use. I really like it and it was easy to install. The door guy knew I was installing the 8500 and positioned the shaft accordingly.

You're getting a bigger door AND he's installing your openers. Sounds like a fair deal, WITH warranty.

Agreed. And even better is that you can open your gate and garage door from a few blocks away and drive right in.

Here is a screenshot from the app.

I paid $1,000 for my two car garage door plus motor - that was in 1998.

I just bought a new, wifi enabled, chaimberland motor and it was $400.

I think your $2500 quote is reasonable. Takes 2x the track and installation as my single door and it is now 2018.

Today I ordered the door openers in the link I posted . I had two companies websites bookmarked that were within 10.00 of each other . I checked them this morning and one of them raised the price for the twin pack to 649.99 ! The website I posted was still under 600.00 so I jumped on it . Hey I need them anyway so might as well save some coin .
