RIP Anthony Bourdain

"Award-winning chef, writer and television personality Anthony Bourdain has died in an apparent suicide, according to CNN. He was 61."

Anyone else a fan of his? He was the only celebrity chef I followed because he was the only one who wasn't a pretentious prick. He seemed so grounded and humble. Someone I could sit in a bar with and listen to for hours on end. Just goes to show you never know what demons hide in people. Guess I'll be binge watching his shows on Netflix this weekend.

As I posted in the other thread, have not seen any of his new stuff, I do not watch network TV.

I used to watch layover and reservations. Loved his show.

He turned mean and angered, I used to follow him on Twitter and IG and stopped he was very angry. When I read this news this morning, I was surprised initially, then as I thought about his last couple of years, not. He seemed to be struggling with emotions, did I expect him to take his life? No, surprised? A little, more surprised it was by hanging, I figured he would just do a kill shot of heroine if he was intent of leaving this rock.

I also am shocked he was only 61, I thought he was in his 70's.

He was a great guy and I really enjoyed his shows. Good looking people that commit
suicide that I would have thought would be happy amaze me. Like the above says the internal demons got to him. RIP. So sad.

I've been a huge fan of his for years. I've watched all of his travel shows, since the early days when he had one called "A Cook's Tour. I've also read all of his books, including some that most people don't know about, his novels. He was a big fan of literature, as I am. His Les Halles cookbook is probably the most grease stained and dog-eared cookbook in my huge collection. A few years back, I considered reaching out to him to help him with a project he was working on, but I never made the connection.

He had a lot of struggles in his life but I had hope for him when he started a family. He leaves behind a young daughter, which is hard to accept. I also feel bad for his great friend Eric, who apparently was the one to find him. Aside from being a brilliant chef, Eric is probably one of the nicest guys on the planet. I cannot imagine how horrible he feels this morning.

I liked his show- I guess he traveled 250 days a year to shoot- eff that. Got divorced over it.

Moral of the story- company will run you into the ground if you let them.

No, he wasn't married to her, but he was dating Asia Argento.

Came as a total shock to my household. We've been watching him for years. One of my favorite episodes was when he returned to his old stomping grounds, Le Halles, to cook a typical lunch and dinner service. And I think Eric Ripert also joined him for the dinner service.

He did. It was a fun show to watch. Tony was a better chef than he ever gave himself credit for, anybody with his appreciation for the ingredients, the traditions and the people behind a particular cuisine should be respected. His travels exposed him to a huge amount of information and it changed him in a number of ways. You could see the changes in him from one season to the next. He's been on TV for a long time.

I've been through my share of crap but can't even imagine the pain necessary to commit suicide. RIP Anthony.

This. I wasn't surprised. I didn't know enough about him to know what his demons were, but it was apparent he had some.

My wife and I are huge fans since food is the cornerstone of any of our vacations. I heard the news on the radio this morning and immediately went to the kitchen to tell my wife as she was making fresh squeezed orange juice. I felt like I was telling her a loved one had died. She did take it pretty hard. So sad. RIP Tony

Another big fan, but not so much lately as I felt he had become angry, bitter and negative. I don't think Asia Argento was a good influence as he got all caught up in the whole "#me too" Weinstein fracas.

I think he was happier with his ex Octavia and being a Dad. Who knows, maybe it was custody issues, breakup with Asia or drug relapse. Just terrible. RIP Anthony.

Horrible news. I really liked his online series where he met different crafts people.

We are losing too many huge talents to the “black dog,” as Winston Churchill called it.

It's sad but I can't say I'm surprised.

That business is full of cynicism, relentless hours, rejection and failure.

So is the Restaurant business.

Shocking but not surprising. Anthony had seen and done everything. His life had run its course. If you’re the type that is always looking for the next stimulant, and there is none to be found, a sense of hopelessness is inevitable.
