Engine Freshening
My goal is to get this car back on track next spring, but the engine needs some attention. It leaks a lot of oil, but I am afraid that is not the only problem. I vintage race a 914-6 so a lot of my money goes towards that, but I can't see this car just sitting any longer. Does anyone know of someone who could do a reasonable run through of the engine? I by no means need a full race engine, since I have my 914-6 for when I can to go fast, but I want something that is reasonably reliable with good performance. I know reasonable and engine work never really go together, but at this point I can't afford to throw a ton of money at the car

Depending on the clutch (180mm vs 200mm) and electrical (6v vs 12v) you could get a 912 engine, hot type 1, type 4, or original 356 engine to "just drop in there" and be ready to go. Least expensive would be a type1 or type4 I would think, although I've seen "ready to run" 912 engines for relatively cheap in the recent past as well. Clutch and electrical would be your deciding factors though I'd think

I am open to a 912 engine. The car utilizes a 12 volt system.

Might wanna call the Big Names (emorys, duane spencer, etc) then and see if any of them have a ready to go engine for ya...
BTW - I'll be up in your neck of the woods later this week. Understand I'm bringing some Florida warmth too... shame. I was hoping to get the wife and kids into snow for the first time.

Hey, I just noticed on the "for sale" side here at PP... someone has a '66 912 wiht a "strong motor" for a good price... grab the motor, part the rest of it out, and maybe even turn a profit.

I got an opinion from someone and it appears with some luck my oil leak might just be coming from an oil return tube, which I am told isn't a tough fix.
