The car is complete. Not done yet. Still have to do some shakedown miles, tune it, set ride height and align and a small punch list. Im sure some things will pop on continuously moving forwards. Really excited where is sits as of today.
602 days since I first started taking it apart. 652 hours of labor so far on my part. https://youtu.be/SWbgJxpM2HU |

Scott....really a great job work and design wise. It is a nice feeling to know exactly where your car is mechanically.

Well damn near burned it down last night. Was installing LED license plate frame and it works great. That is the first time I have had the headlights on for more than about 10 seconds. Previously I just turned them on, flashed the brights, saw it was working and turned them off. This time they were on for about a minute and smoke started coming out from under the dash!!!...after I crapped myself I quickly disconnected the battery and pulled out the headlight switch. Feel very fortunate because had I been out driving and not in my garage I believe I very likely would have lost the car. That would have been a real pisser to burn it down on day 2!
Ordered a new switch. BTW the cheapest one I could find was $430. That is freaking ridiculous. Have my engineer buddy coming over and we are gonna test everything very thoroughly before installing the new one. Spoke with Dennis and he gave me some tips and a suggested inline fuse to add so will be dong that as well. |

I am guessing you have the relays that are available for high wattage headlights?

WOW, hard to hear about the headlight switch; glad you were able to locate the problem quickly and stop it from becoming major.
Aside, has painting the wheels on the Cobra passed through your mid yet....? |

Took the car out to the same spot as the first time I took pictures of it. Guess this wraps up the build portion of the thread. Will update periodically.

That car is quite a beautiful example of a 79 - you really did a fantastic job getting it back on the road. Very tasteful mods, not “in your face” and a very clean machine.
Sorry to hear about the HLS, .... I’ve never heard of the HLS getting Smokey after the relay kit was installed. Did you have a “hot” wire touching another in the area that is in question?? I too had an incident with the HL; before I installed the new turn signal switch and the relay kit where I nearly tested my fire extinguisher. Glad you were able to keep it in check.

We speculate the problem was within the switch. A new one is on the way. I had a very smart engineer buddy come over to help diagnose the wiring and our resident forum electrical expert Dennis was kind enough to speak on the phone with him to answer some questions. Electrical is certainly not my strong point other than a basic understanding.
After testing everything my buddy found a short in the blue/black wire that powers the lights in the ash tray, the heater sliders and the little defrost light on the floor between the seats. Very thankful that did not damage anything other than the switch. Still haven't quite made peace with the $430 replacement switch cost! haha |

Appreciate the positive feedback everyone.
Took my wife for a drive today. First official passenger outside the neighborhood. We only went about 15 miles. My other two funs cars are a 2018 991 C2S and a Factory Five Cobra I built. Pulling into the garage she stated the SC was easily her favorite of the 3. In her words "It isn't annoyingly loud, it isn't fast and I just like riding in it". Big endorsement from my #1 supporter! haha |

Been enjoying the car. Have about 300 miles on it now. Everything is working good. Got the AC working which has been nice in the Alabama summer heat. Took it to its first cars and coffee last weekend. Took both cars out for a photo shoot.
Bought some alignment tools and set it myself. Really pleased how the car drives. I left the ride height a little higher than most would probably prefer. Honestly the Cobra is a pain in the rear with how low it sits. I am pleased how the 911 sits. My wife has claimed it as her favorite and calls it "her car". She cant drive a manual so I guess she can call it whatever she pleases. haha |
