Experience with Electric AC - Fan Belt issues.

Have just installed electric compressor AC system including a WOS Alternator capable of generating up to 170 amps. Measurements from this alternator while the AC is operating show amps of approximately 70 amps, which is likely being consumed by the electric compressor, measured at 45 amps plus three condenser fans and one evaporator fan. No lights were switched on. Obviously the load on the fan belt is significantly higher than "normal" 1970-1980 911 systems.

I have now run my AC several times for hours at time with no problems. Any comments regarding fan belt issues will be welcome.

What fan belt issues are you having exactly?

I’ve had my electrocooler AC system in for 4 years. Still on the original belt which must be 6 years old by now.

3 condenser fans?

If you have an electric a/c I assume you are referring to the alternator belt as you no longer have a belt driving the a/c compressor. Is your question truly in regards to the wear on the rubber belt? If so, the upgraded alternator offers no additional resistance than does the stock one, and like the stock one is in constant rotation so I don’t see that there is additional wear and tear on the belt. I too have the electric a/c along with the high output alternator and have seen no issues. One thing I would mention is that if you haven’t already done it, you may want to replace your stock crank dual pulley with a single unit as the weight of the dual drive belt unit is considerably heavier (~twice as heavy).

The fan belt is a weird size, and aftermarket belts simply don't fit it right. Get a Porsche branded belt either from Pelican, or your dealer. It will fit right, and eliminate one possible issue.

I know that sounds bizarre, but it was my experience with my 85 911.

Thanks for all your comments. I am not having any issues with my alternator belt, but recall reading somewhere that the extra load an the alternator challenged the stock alternator belt. I will stop worrying about it now - thanks.

I have four condensers in series - two 911 style front AC condensers sandwiched together to my Mazda oil cooler up front, with one large (12"0) exhaust fan, and two smaller condensers each with a 7" fan, in the fender space in front of each rear wheel, all in my 1972, 914-6 conversion.

Sounds like a interesting setup. The 914 with a small cabin area is pretty easy to cool.
