Rockwool doesn’t burn, insects and rodent don’t like it, doesn’t hold water, doesn’t itch, doesn’t need to be stapled, cuts super easy, doesn’t have much waste from custom cuts, semi air sealing, great for sound control and goes up 3X faster than fiberglass. I’ve done both. Easily worth the extra cost.

Ever seen The Truman Show with Jim Carrey? That was filmed in Seaside, FL before anyone knew where Seaside was. My undergrad degree is architecture and my class built one of the parks in Seaside in the early ‘90s. I thought it was perfect. And then after the movie came out Seaside went from this little hidden gem to the place everyone wanted to vacation. Then everyone wanted to copy the Seaside model — Santa Rosa Beach, Watercolor, Grayton Beach, etc etc. Everything exploded off of “scenic highway 30A” and it became a status symbol to put 30A stickers on your car. That meant you have the money to vacation someplace *cool*. A gazillion people showed up and everything that made Seaside awesome went away. We’re east of all that. East of Tyndall AFB is Mexico Beach (where the eyewall of Hurricane Michael came ashore in 2018) and then we live in St Joe Beach. It gets it’s name from St. Joseph Bay which is formed by Cape San Blas. Everything from Mexico Beach to Apalachicola is called the Forgotten Coast around here. It’s one of the last vestiges of “Old Florida”. Apalachicola is famous for oysters (yum!). So we don’t want most people to know about it or it will spoil it. ![]() Here’s a picture of my “backyard”.

That’s awesome. Around here you can only build (“hard surface”) on 30% of your land. My garage is about 800 sq ft but it is under the living space so it doesn’t count as extra. No way I could ever build something that big. One of the locals wanted a garage, so he bought a house on a lot big enough to build a shop. He rents the house on AirBNB, VRBO, etc. and it makes it cost neutral for him.

I promised pictures from Amelia but I found that all the pics I took with my phone are too big to upload from my computer. I figured out that when I upload from my phone it will let me choose a smaller file size that Pelican allows.
We arrived at Amelia on Thursday night. Woke up to this view. ![]() Got coffee and then drove to Porsche Werks Reunion. ![]() They park you by model, so all 911s are grouped together. This year they honored the 996 so they got special parking. The rest of us heathens had to park in the back. Lots of cool stuff on display. Funny story… there was a vendor there showing off their ITB setup and engine rebuilding. When I first walked by they had an engine on a stand and everything set up to actually be able to run it but they were having trouble. Dead battery and they were trying to charge it. The placard on the front said OUTLAW 2.8 Engine. I came back later and they were still fiddling with it. As I was looking at the engine, I felt someone standing next to me. I thought it was my friend and I turned to say something. Lo and behold it’s Magnus and his girlfriend. She asked “what makes it an outlaw engine?” Magnus said “it says outlaw on it.” No truer were have ever been spoken.

It seems like the Safaris are growing in popularity. It seems like a fine thing to do with a donor car but I saw a mint 930 that was about to get converted to a Safari. I don’t get that… but hey that’s just me.
![]() It seems like there are also more Singer copycats. Interestingly, Singer used to show up at these events but I don’t see them anymore. Porsche seems to be stepping up their restomod and Parts Classic business. I heard a rumor that Porsche and Singer may be collaborating on something.

What's the point of a low-drag door mirror on a safari? It's not like it's exploring tight forest trails and needs the clearance. May as well put a full size flag mirror on it or just not run them at all.

FTFY. Half the mods people do to these cars are just because other people did them and they want scene points. I don't think anyone's ever going to notice the performance improvement from a low drag mirror, RS door cards, or stability improvements from ducktails but they're everywhere.

You get all of the scene points and none of the ride harshness of a slammed race car on 21s...

Before we get too far off the rails...
Tim, have we seen an outside pic of this pending masterpiece? Or just a few plans and an inside snap? (not trying to discern your address, just curious)

I can assure you, the house is not recognizable from the pics on Google Maps now.
![]() ![]() This was from December. The container in the driveway is storing my tools, cabinets and other stuff while I work on the garage. Insulation going in. ![]() Drywall going up. It’s moisture and mold resistance kind. ![]() We had a big rainstorm recently and I noticed water was coming in on the right side (opposite side where I started working). I can’t finish that side until the contractor who finished the exterior walls comes back to fix it. Glad I found it before insulation and drywall went up!

It's important to consider placing your wall outlets and lighting circuits on different breakers. This way, if you accidentally trip a breaker for your tools, you won't find yourself without light when resetting it. Fumbling in the darkness can be quite inconvenient. More recs you can get from tti customer service. In my initial workshop, I had residential wiring concealed within the walls. However, I quickly realized the benefit of using EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) to allow for the addition of new circuits when necessary.
