I was having the problem of my dash speaker grill popping out every time i closed my frunk. The inserts that go onto the threaded studs for the grill and insert into the holes in the dash had all disintegrated. So I whipped up a new fastener to thread onto the studs and printed it out of PETG HF on my bambu P1s. They work great, but would likely be even better printed in a TPU.

Here is my clip/wire loom to secure 8mm ignition wires into groups of three. I like to do this to keep my wires grouped into upper vs lower on each side.

Here is the model in Makerworld

Phone Mount

Next project is a new phone mount for the car. Like many here I've run the Rennline phone mount that clamps onto the clock to hold my phone and have really liked it. I modded mine with a hardwired magsafe charging pad on it for my iphone and it is great for streaming music and gps navigation. My one main complaint about the Rennline mount is the height it puts the phone at. It is too low in my opinion. Not only do I have to look down more than I would like to see the phone, occasionally when my hand is going from the shift knob to the wheel or wiper stalk or vice versa, I hit the phone and knocks it off the mount. I've always wanted a similar mount that puts the phone higher up. My comfort level with CAD design has allowed me to take a whack and printing out a new one.

My design is very similar to the Rennline, but modified for 3d printing in plastic and to allow it to rotate more while clearing the cowl around the gauges. The Rennline is limited by the cowl around the gauges, and the arm can;t go more counter clockwise than about 5:00. My mount can go up to about 2:30, which is as high as I want it. It uses a 30mm long 4mm x .7 allen head bolt to pinch mount on the clock body.

Here is a pic of my CAD model

I printed this out of ASA and it is holding up well so far. Here is the link to the file on Makerworld - https://makerworld.com/en/models/2162125-porsche-911-phone-mount?from=search#profileId-2344190

993 heat delete cover 3D file?

Hello,
before scanning and modeling I like to ask if there is a stl or step file available for a 993 heat delete cover?
Should be part 5 from this pic, just without the tube connection.
I already have a PatrickMotorsport sheet to rivet in the existing part,
but I really do not like the rivets that much.

Talking about scanning, for those who have a 3D scanner, what do you use?
I bought an Einstar not too long ago and I'm impressed at what it can do. I'm still learning how to use it.
The newer models like Metro Pro Y, Einstar2, Rockit, Sermon S1 look impressive.

There will, of course, be a TPU gasket which interfaces between the ABS duct and the stainless steel crosspipe where it goes through the engine tin.

I'll probably just glue the final elbows and spacers in place, easy enough to do by printing up a small lip so they stay on axis and I will use good ABS glue which is pretty strong stuff.

It was far, far, far more work than I expected and as I told two lady friends of mine, it has more curves than both of them put together!

All done though....now just try and make my custom engine tin work...

Nice ones.

Are these 3D files available ?

Not yet....I am just fitting the engine to the car for the first time and want to make absolutely sure that it fits properly before I release it into "the wild".

It was also a pig to design, I am almost tempted to start over as my F360 skills have gone up a lot since I designed that thing.

If you want the .stl as it is, just PM me with your email address...happy to send.

What is that magnetic part that holds the phone?

I presume you run a cable to that part to charge the phone via induction.

Hi guys, lots of very cool stuff....thought I would share the intake bell I printed up for my air cleaner. Apparently it does make a difference to airflow and sound, so I upsized an ID of 72 mm, about 2.8 inches which is about the smallest passage you want for a 3.4.

Its ABS....but in a cool area, so I am pretty confident it will be OK.

Yes, that is a MagSafe induction charging mount for an iPhone. I used this one as it is small and holds the phone securely, even during spirited driving.

It is powered by a USB adaptor I mounted behind the dash.

Someone reached out to me about the phone mount I made. He asked what the knob was I used. It is the 17mm (16.8mm measured) knob that comes on the Rennline mount. I was concerned about the knob being too weak if I printed it as part of the mount, as the narrowest part would be under stress and rely on the weaker Z access layer lines for strength. Then it occurred to me to print the knob, but include another 4mm Allen bolt (25mm long this time) with captive nut to put the knob in compression and make it way stronger than it should ever need to be. So here’s the updated mount with knob.

Here is the link to the print and the STEP file on Makerworld:
