Another Numbers Matching Question from a Newb
Hi guys, I recently purchased my first air cooled Porsche, a beautiful 1974 911 base. Trying to figure out if it is the original motor and based on my research I am fairly certain it is. Looking for some other opinions... So the car is a 2.7 G obviously, first year for the 2.7 and based on the vin, the manufacture date of the car is December of 1973. The engine code is 6134792 which is the slightly confusing thing. My understanding is '74 was the first year for the 2.7 correct and since it was built in 12/73 does that make since with the 3 in the code? Does it make sense that this would be the original motor? Thanks for the help!

1974 911 (base) 9114100001 - 9114104014, 4014 Produced
Matching Engine Serial # = 6140001-6146625 Type 911/92 So your engine # 6134792 seem to belong to a1973 911T US, CIS; Type 911/91 . Things being equal (4014/12= 334.5 a month), thus 9114101937 would be around Jan 1974 Can you post a pic of the Engine Type 911/xx.

Thanks JJ, appreciate the information. I need to get some additional pics of the engine and post them up. The car is currently in the shop getting some work done, but this is super helpful.
Actually I realized I had a typo, it should have been 9114101957, not sure if that makes any difference... Quote:

The original Maintenance record book might have the original engine #. The only other way to find the engine # that I know of is to use a service like mine to get a CoA type report that has the information. The current PCNA offering, the PPS, requires you to provide the numbers for verification, but I do not.

I have engine type 901/14, with engine number 3280982. It was owned by the late Grady Clay. If anyone is looking for this engine to match their car, let me know. Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I don't know what car that belongs to, but I will add to my database. Can you find the build number next to the type # please; 13629 or higher.
Dave

Anyone come across Porsche 911 engine codes by Dr. Culata? Stumbled over this today and seems to confirm that my car was originally a sportomatic. Engine number is 6389217 and the 9 seems to indicate that it was a sportomatic (code SPM ) on page 15 of this compilation. As most of you will know the 6 is for 6 cylinder; the 3 is engine type; the 8 is year -1978-; and it seems that serial nos.
0001 to 9000 are for manual gearboxes and 9001 onwards indicate sportomatics. Thought this might be of interest.

Carerra 3.0 new engine casing
I am looking to buy a 1977 Carerra 3.0. Owner says the engine casing was replaced when the engine was rebuilt. Will it have a new engine number? Does this automatically make it a non numbers matching car? Thank you!

I would say its non-matching, because how would you match the car to the engine.. with no number? Is this a US CIS or Euro MFI 3.0 Carrera?

I believe it is a MFI. I do know that it was imported from Germany in the 1980's. Wouldn't that make it a MFI?
