Thanks Scott , that is superb. I had forgotten that you did away with the stock top shock mounts also and went with the fabed bar. very clean. In my G50 car (before it burned) i had rear rail supports welded to top of rails on pads like yours, that ran thru the firewall to connect with the roll cage. likely do this again. Tell me, did you beef up the sides of the rails with pads where the new motor mount was welded on? it looks like it. also, your mount rear cross bar is simply solidly bolted to the tab; so no rubber cushioning at all like a stock mount? no concern for vibration?

Yes, the rails are beefed up wherever the cage attaches and where the mounting tabs are for the engine crossmember.
The engine mounts are solid. All of the air-cooled Factory race cars used solid engine and transmission mounts. Some people think that solid mounts can cause harmonics issues with the engine. My car had solid transmission mounts too but I am trying out Rebel Racing semi-solid transmission mounts now. I can't say that I am feeling a difference but maybe the harmonics are better damped now.

Thanks scott. got it. yes one can use the solid mounts, as yours in rear , but still achieve a bit of damping by using the semi-solids up front. perfect. With these images my fab guy can easily replicate it.
So there is no perceptible ( or predicted) loss of frame rigidity, even under hard track twisting conditions , by deletion of the rear chassis member? The stock engine hangar is certainly not structural in this contexzt. |

My race car has always been this way so I have no way to determine if there is any loss of frame rigidity. But, the engine crossmember is indeed providing structural rigidity. I have a hard time believing that with the cage extensions and custom square tube frame setup for the suspension there are any issues.

I does look dark green but given the team name, I have to think it's the German flag colors. Black, red and yellow.

The #13 is US driver Hal Shaw's car. It is a converted 1976 934.
You can just copy my chassis if you want. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Except that the photo has obvious black and red elements in it that do not match the colors around the number plate. So you can say there is some kind of color shift in the photo. Those colors are clearly green, orange, and yellow.

Do we know if it is paint vs a decal. If painting transparent black over yellow the black can take on hints of olive green which may not be immediately noticeable in person but very obvious in photos or in print.

Look at the Goodyear sticker. It is black. But, the “German Auto” is clearly green. Both are stickers.
Look at the “Winston” sticker. It is red. But, the middle color outlining the number is orange. Also, look at the red in the jacket the young lady is wearing. I am a photographer…..and yes, white balance can really mess up the look of colors in a photo. But, there are enough colors in the photo to see that white balance is not making black look green or red look orange.

Do a search for that team and car. Everything else looks black.
