CIS to EFI - 3.2 EFI intake on 2.7 pix (part 2)

Part 2 -(search for part 1, if interested.) I've added pix to show the EFI plumbing I used for grafting the 3.2 EFI manifold to the 2.7. I've used the fuel rails that came with the Tbitz kit, rather than the stock 3.2 rails. much nicer, I think. I mounted them using the Tbitz CIS to EFI mounting brackets modded to fit. (Bent to the correct angle, shortened and redrilled. Easy deal. All fuel lines installed. The holes to route the cables for the ECU (Megasquirt) have been drilled and the cables routed out the back of the cabin, into the lower engine compartment. Completing that is next. More to come. This thing is making me smile now.

I didn't catch your earlier thread, did you mention how you matched the ports? Not attacking, truely interested. Much nicer to took at than that CIS. This looks like a nice alternative to PMO's.

Luke,
I used one of the plastic spacers from the 3.2 intake to outline the 3.2 I.D. and injection port difference. Then I went to work with my die grinder and stones to open up the 2.7 injection port and blend the two I.D.'s by increasing the bevel on the 2.7 head intake port to match the 3.2 I.D. This eliminated the sharp edges. Followed up with some buffing to smooth things out. Was a bit of work, but hopefully this will provide a smoother transition/airflow. This should be a great alternative to the modded CIS or carbs.

I sure hope you have better luck setting up the Megasquirt than I'm having, 2 months and still not running. Good luck

I researched quite a bit and having heard good things about the Tbitz kit and the associated service during start up & debug, I went with his kit. If the attention to detail and quality of the components are any indication, this should not be a problem. We shall see by next weekend. stay tuned. Once i get mine running, I can try to help you with yours.

I believe Tbitz kit uses the Megasquirt I vs. the version II that I am useing. As I am finding out there is a difference in setting the 2 versions up. The version II has more capability but is more complicated and speaks in a different code/language than the version I. If I had to do it all over again I think I would have payed more for a ECU from Autronic,Haltech or Emerald. I'm not giving up but I'm really tired of not driving my car.

Tbitz uses version 3 hardware with a Version 3 "Tbitz" software that includes a start-up routine.

Looks real nice, Al.

Since the question was brought up....The BITZ Racing CIS to EFI kit uses the MegaSquirt ECU with the V3 PCB and the 68HC908 processor (the original processor) and a custom software load for the Porsche EFI conversion.

I stuck with this hardware setup as it is mature and works well. Lot's of folks have been running EFI 911s without any issues using this setup.

I've decided not to upgrade the kit to the MSII processor because it is more expensive and it doesn't give anything more really.

Cheers,

Thanks for clearing that up Tony. Has anybody you've been working with gone to Megasquirt n'spark. I have all the parts for going EDIS/crankfire. Once i get up, running, debugged I'm headed that way, either on the engine I'm working on now or the one that is on my engine stand waiting in the wings.

Al,

I am running MSnS-Extra code on my car. It has more features than the stock software I supply with the kit, but is more complex to configure. For this reason I supply the standard software in the kit, and the "advanced" users can upgrade to MSnS-Extra code.

Forgot to mention, I have a custom BITZ Racing version of the MSnS-Extra software load that is required with the kit.

Cheers,

tony,
I'm definitely interested in the MSnS option. I will head in that direction as soon as I'm comfortable with the EFI step. Shouldn't take long.

Old thread, I know, but I was curious about the use of an aluminum fuel rail with the Carrera 3.2 manifold. The injectors on the Carrera manifold are not at 90 degrees to the fuel rails. If you look at the ports on the factory Carrera fuel rails, the "bungs" are at a slight angle. Does this not cause a sealing problem with the aluminum rail? Thanks.

No problems. The rail just mounts perpendicular to the injectors. As long as the securing tabs to not push it off angle. As Al mentioned. He bent the tabs to change the angle.

Not sure I follow. How can the rail be perpendicular to all of the injectors if they're all at, say 80 degrees? The photo below illustrates the angle:

That just looks like an artifact of pulling it out. Generally you pull one end and this will put an angle on them. With old o-rings they will not recenter the injector.

I do not think this is the actual angle since the injector position is centered with respect to the intake valve.

It's not an artefact - both the manifold and rail ports are genuinely angled. I measured it with a protractor as 2 degrees. Small, but it's still there. Sounds like it hasn't been an issue, though.
