Mike, just in case I get down to SAN on one of my trips what are your initials when you are on the job. Great project!
Chuck |
Cool, let me know the dates. I just took the Procedures Specialist position so my schedule is a wee bit for flexible now!
Cheers |
It was Awesome Bill. It was really awesome to see how fast he was in what was a sort of tricked out 911 turbo carrera. I' am sure there was more to it than what he let on, but it was fast indeed.
Glad to see your evolution getting better, can't believe it has evolved to what what is is currently. I have been watching this tread for a long time. If you running out in Phoenix this winter, let me know. Would be nice to meet you. I'am in the current process of a 3.6 transplant into my 1982 SC. Might be ready in a few months or so, not in a hurry until the other house sells. Mike |

Just ask if Mike Golf is in the tower. I'll try to make you #1. ;) Best, Mike |

It can be a fun DE, sometimes with several Pelican 911s. When it gets a little closer lets verify time off, logistics and my car's status. We can discuss it more via pm. Sounds like fun. Best, Mike |

His skills with the old 911 swing axle suspension inspires many of us with similar set ups. Actually Bill's car has a reserved spot on the big rig hauler posted earlier. Older photo of Bill's 350hp+ 930. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157993479.jpg I have not been to PIR yet. Bill has said it is a very nice track and facility with nice hotels minutes away. Either AZ or CA always up for a cold one and bench racing. Good luck with your conversion, I used Patrick for many of my parts. Best, Mike |

Wednesday November 15 with OTR I'm the chief driving instructor for both, and Mike has my permission to take passengers out -- so long as I get a ride at some point. ;) |
Cool, thanks, Jack. If I make it down it will be for the November event, but I will bring my helmet!
Cheers |
Yes, thank you Jack.
Spending a weekday with OTR sure beats working.:) |

Mike - I think you might have to bring ropes to form a line for ride-alongs SmileWavy |
I enjoy reading bits and pieces of your build Mike. Now its time for an important question.. When are you going to make it 3.8L and Twin Turbo? ;) :p
|
Quote:
I expect the current 300hp street able 3.6 will do fine. If more hp was needed it would have be street able so a high CR 400hp 3.8 is not really what it needs. The turbo would be nice for a couple of reasons. Low boost keeps it street able. Big Hp with more boost. A new challenge learning to race or TT with a turbo. The bigger power would be tough on my 915. So if I were to do it today..maybe a factory water cooled twin turbo with a 5 speed G50. Those would be some expensive bits and pieces... The old 3.6 at 140mph should do it for me. :) |
My buddy John Simone has been busy.
He is making molds of my one off +4 wide front fenders. Here are a few pictures of yesterday and today's progress. The drivers side mold is 50% complete, should have it done tomorrow night, then a 48 hour cure. Fender Prepped and parting flanges in position, 8 Hrs to get to this point. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads8/z1158472324.jpg Wax and mold release applied, dry time 1 hour. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158472367.jpg Gel Coat application last night at 8:00 PM, 12 Hour Dry time before mold lay-up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158472395.jpg First two layers of fiberglass, two more tomorrow, then reinforcement plywood supports will be added. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158472421.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158472429.jpg John plans to start on the passenger front fender Monday. Two weeks from today the car will be in Las Vegas at the PCA Spring Mountain TT. I really don't like to rush John but he seems to find the time and energy to always reach his goals. :) |
Car looks beautiful man, nice looking conversion!

Couple nice ones in San Diego. The mold process continues. John has been busy on the molds while keeping up with his real (day) job too. Drivers Side Mold with plywood back up structure to reinforce the mold so that it retains a prefect shape when removed from the fender http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads8/61158729870.jpg Mold will be removed Thursday evening, then trim and clean. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158729877.jpg 8 days till we leave for the Vegas PCA event, passenger fender is in gel coat. It will be ready but no time to spare. Kinda looks like a Unique Whips left front mega sub woofer box. :D |
I am not sure what I like better...your car on the track or in the garage getting the magic work done. Awesome...keep us updated.
|
ted, see you at Spring Mountain on the 30th and/or the 1st. I will make sure to bring plenty of film and memory sticks to take pictures, car is looking awesome!!!!

If I post a garage photo next year it should be of me just waxing it with a cold beer.:) Thanks for the encouragement. Best, Mike |

Come by and say hi grab a chair under the awning. Did you enter the TT? If so you should see my car from the inside out. I've got a spare driving suit and helmet, hop in for a Saturday session. Sunday I'll be solo preparing for timed runs. Both days I'll be helping with the lunch time track tours. If possible take your car out or maybe mine for a half speed tour? See ya then, Mike Gagen aka ted on Pelican.;) PS I know a good party (VW group) in Henderson Saturday night, but I think it's a little too far a drive to go party from Pahrump. |
Mike, will bring the chair and a couple of cold ones (diet coke of course!!)
Don't race anymore, got a really bad experience many years ago and I chicken-out. Not that bad of a drive from Pahrump to Henderson ... the problem will be the way back after a party!! :) See you there. |

Yeah DC till the the beers are cool, the track is cold and the jello is jiggling.:) (rip Chick) see ya there, Mike |
Could it be the 911 solution to match the ultimate 944 50/50 balance? ;)
Both molds boxed and waiting for the 2 day cure time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158912416.jpg Passenger side completed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads8/11158912440.jpg The driver side was ready first. The prototype front fenders on the car had a lot of body work hours in them. Too many to risk damaging them. Now the heavy prototypes can be used as spares. The new fenders from the new molds will be stronger and save a couple lbs. If anyone needs +4 or +2 front or rear fenders (any FG part on my car for that matter) contact John Simone, he has the molds and makes the parts himself. GOOD STUFF! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158912454.jpg |
Awesome, car is really coming along. Cant wait to see it all finished up!!!

Anyway thought I'd share these pictures from the day today of the White Flash in it's almost finished stage. After de-mold and assembly/installation estimated weight 4 Lbs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159145720.jpg |
Me (tall guy) with Official Tech Inspector/Assembler, Mr. Jim D.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159146368.jpg This car looks better than the Factory Stuff !!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159146402.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159146440.jpg Ready for Vegas with 6 days to spare. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159146494.jpg After a long two weeks of thrashing it's time to celebrate on two accounts ! Champagne compliments of Jim D. John Simone far left is the mold & part maker/body transformation guru extrordinair! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159146534.jpg |
Awesome.

congratulations!

FINALLY!!!!!
I get to see what my rebody will look like;) I'm thinkin' hard about swingin' over to the dark side:D Keep it clean in Pahrump...you know what I mean! Looks sharp and I agree, better than factory. Corner worker's choice for sure. |
Wow Ted, the finished product is beautiful!! Are you planning to bring that beast up to Willow Springs on the 11th?
|
WOW! Sweet ride. Car came out great. Enoy and dont forget about the 11th. I need some instructing.
|
Really like the car man, looks great. Love the pics. I cant stop right clicking and saving!!! :D

Sherwood I really like your front hood prop. Do you make a rear hood prop that will accept the extra weight of the decklid and wing? If so I'd like to buy one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159199104.jpg Quote:

It's all set up for with a passenger seat with 5 point belts and a chatterbox intercom so we can talk about the track during the session. For me it's not about the speed, it's the competition that keeps it interesting. Although instructing is my second favorite pass time at the track. So I'd be thrilled to have a ride along for every session at an OTR event. This car with the old body and new 710s ran 127.0 at Big Willow. Since then it lost 200lbs and lost drag. Maybe with a 200lb rider and good scrub tires, right conditions we can cruise to a sub 1.30? I should know this week if I can get the day off. Quote:
Not sure I'll get 5th gear at Spring Mountain but I am really looking forward to T8 at Big Willow flat in 5th to experiance the reduced drag. At Jae's shop I saw your big dog on the lift. Yeah your wide front tires were pushing the width of the early car front spoiler. These new +4 wide front fenders were made for your car. One front fender only 3lbs.:D Have a cigar and think it over. Agree let's bring'm home in one piece.:) Good luck at Miller this weekend!! Quote:
Please do hop in my right seat should we ever meet at the track. So is the Henry J going to be restored to stock? What color? |
I will definatly right shotgun with ya for sure!!! That would be a lot of fun. My uncle has had it since it was born and I got it from him not too long ago. When he restored it original shape he make some HUGE restoration flaws that kind of upsets me. But he has left it in a garage for the past 21 years without ever running it or anything. He wants me to restore it to original, but the things he did during restoration make it very difficult to do that now. It is a 2 tone beige and brown, wish I had the pics of it on this comp. I will try and send them to you sometime when I get them from my other comp. But I think I will just make a gasser out of it. Have a street/strip car. Just hope he doesnt find out!!! :D
|
Cool car Creag, yeah I'd make it with a mild small block and a big AC system, and hit the hot rod events. Not likely to see many Js at the events. :)
|
Props to Sherwood, for his simple, elegant and effective hood props.
His company makes some great products. http://www.seinesystems.com/ I ran his shifter kit for years and it worked flawlessly.:D I never missed a shift with his shifter kit. For about a year I have been enjoying his carbon fiber front hood strut.:D But still using using a broom stick for the heavy rear decklid and wing.:( But today in the mail I received Sherwood's rear decklid strut. Thanks Sherwood, great product, easy to install with well written instruction including pictures. Took 5 minutes to install, and I'll enjoy it for years.:D Seine system struts front and rear. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159468066.jpg Heavy wing and decklid no problem for this strut. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159468127.jpg The rear strut. Much much lighter than gas struts and these never need replacing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159468172.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159468269.jpg Front strut. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159468198.jpg Thanks Sherwood for making such a great product. |
When does paint go on that monster? And what color? I vote Mexico Blue! (like Bill Verburg's.

If your 3.6 is ready take it to Big Willow if not ride up with me and let me introduce you to a very fun track! Paint smaint I don't want the extra weight.;) Yeah that blue is very nice....tempting but I was thinking maybe white before the end of the year. You going to the Vintage races at Coronado on the 7/8? I have an extra car corral pass if your 911 can make it? Got it you are going to Big Willow Oct 11 get a full day pass and bring your Helmet. Oh and don't have anything too heavy for breakfast. ;) |
Mike, you look all ready for the weekend of fun and races in Las Vegas!!!
See you on Saturday. Safe driving. |

You might be interested during the lunch hour the track will be open for controlled speed track tours. No helmet required, but speeds are under 55mph. Might be fun for you to spend a half hour on track. Here is the track map and a Link to a cool video of a lap at the track. This year we will be using the new 3.1 mile, 18 turn expanded road course. This really is an ideal TT track. See you there. Mike http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159473889.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159473899.jpg |
I will think about it .. I have done the long track before (at controlled speeds) but never with my car. Last time I was at a track (at non-controlled speeds) I wake up 3 days later in a hospital, make you think a bit before going back.
