Thanks guys for the wiring tips, it's on the list.
Very nice job Len!

Last couple photos, got lucky had like 4 photographers down at Qualcomm stadium Sunday.
From Henry's Photos, more DE cars here.

Last one, here is John Simone, he is the guy that builds and installs all of these cool EVO parts.
He was not really prepared but I talked him into taking it out for a couple laps. Big grin. :D

WOW! I saw all of "Ted's" for sale ads and wondered if there was some tragic end to the RSR...so I had to run a search and found this! Damn nice work by John Simone. You're nuts Mike...but the result of your insanity is .... enviable! Can't wait to see the car painted.

Hi Souk,
Well you got me figured out.:)
It's the end for the RSR+, but not tragic thankfully.
Enviable thanks, John Simone is very talanted with the composites.
FYI here is John's contact info.
j_simone@msn.com

This week the car is being obsessed on over at the local tin shop.
So I spent Sunday taking pictures of spare parts in the garage.:)

Imho if you want to save a few thousand on an EVO2 rebody just skip the RSR+ step.;)

I'll post some updates in a couple days.
Best,
Mike

Couple of update photos...
Still in the fabrication phase, paint will follow.
The big wing is on.
The other smaller wing will be used on the street.
Which wing will work best on the track?
From what I have been told theoretically the big wing has a narrow chord so it is more of a high aspect or high speed wing.
We'll see in testing.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155946653.jpg
Maybe you can see the rear seat area cover.
It has been powder coated with a wrinkle black finish...was hoping on the freeway from two lanes away it might look like black carpet.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155946808.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155946830.jpg
I have the passenger seat installed finally.
The cover will be replaced, but it too has received the same black wrinkle finish.
The passenger's otherwise lonely session at Big Willow will be more interesting thanks to Chatterbox helmet to helmet comm system. ;)

The passenger comforts continue with right and left dead pedals, how nice!
The driver's combo cool shirt/helmet cooler rests between your feet.
Maybe it will (maybe not) deflect some of the heat from the -20 oil linehttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/fork_off.gif under your chair.
You'll rest like a baby with an extra 2 inches of foam pad under your passenger seat cover.;)
Top left are the controls for the driver's cool shirt ice water flow and helmet air flow.
Work in progress, more race/street prep left.
Cool shirts let long timers (older guys) race longer. ;)

Hop in!

The license plate, yeah excess tire, the wife asks if it's about my waistline!
So I grabbed a light beer. ;)

The front air screens.
Not exactly what I had requested from the local fabricator.
When silver they pop out, paint them black and they will blend in.
I'm concerned that they will create too much drag.
I had requested the more common SS weave screens.
Reminds me of my summers working at Disneyland, Space Mountain'ish.:)
Fastener locations questionable.
Jury is still out on these.

Close up, new home of the Uber African bee?.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1155949146.jpg
Here is the Stainless steel weave type screen I had requested.
Would you sweat the aluminum screens?
More to follow later.:D

I like the beehive product, but the installation seems lousy - sorry to say (fasteners off - center, lack of symmetry, etc). I do think they may restrict airflow in a negative way. I haven't completed my wind tunnel, so I can't offer it up for testing :D :D

It kind of reminds me of the clowns who installed my clear paint guard product.

More importantly, YOU WORKED AT DISNEYLAND???....WOW!! :D :D

Look forward to catching up over a beer or three.

Neato!!! Whats w/ the pvc nipples in the cool suit box? Do they go to they helmet or are the cool shirt hoses that big:D If DW has 3 beers, you have 3 beers, I have 3 beers...well you get the picturehttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

ted 08-18-2006 07:03 PM

Yeah just helmet air.
They claim it lowers the the temperature of the intake air 20 degrees.

Uh huh like that Saturday a few weeks back...
I drink 3 beers before I drink 3 beers, and then I drink 3 more.

Just talked to Jae, your new 5 car rig is gonna be sweet!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif
Can we see a photo?

rs-vic 08-18-2006 07:05 PM

Those "beehive" screens are too restrictive. I'll bet you get less than 1/2 the airflow of open. Look at the huge frame that lets no air through. Doesn't John Simone have some mesh protectors?

Hi Vic,
Good to hear from you!
Yeah John will need something very soon too.
Agree too restrictive.
I asked that question on the Pelican AX board and got a pretty good answer.
I may for the time being remove the brake screen, it just dumps air behind the strut.
I may for a quick fix keep the the oil cooler screen frames but replace the centers with the SS weave.
I was surprised the fabricator substituted this material without consulting me.
Waste of both his and my time.

Arrive and drive, that's bad it's nationwide.
Good looking rig!
Yes please do though my name in the hat, that looks like an excellent adventure.:)

Mad Mike 09-08-2006 09:26 PM

Any updates?

Spoke to a friend of yours at the AZ PCA race this year. He drove the brown '77 Turbo Carrera. He didn't know you at Ted, instead a different (real name).

Hey Mad Mike was that awesome Bill Dawson in his Peru Red 930?
Bill is very fast, he was competitive in Europe during the 70s in the F1 farm league.:D
He still has it.
Yeah the name Ted is Google proof.;)
My real name is Mike, hope to see you at the track soon.
Since you asked it reminded me to take the camera out to the garage today.
Actually this weekend I was over at John Simone's garage in north San Diego.
A couple of us were there...
Left to right.
Bob's red and white PCA EVO 2, John's sweet 81 SC and John Payne's EVO 2 POC racer.
Both Evo's came in for a new nose jobs.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157946104.jpg
John's rig surrounded by 5 Porsches, under the tarp an EVO 2 soon to rx a 993 500hp twin turbo.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157946190.jpg
Jose came by to wrench some in his yellow rocket.

Jose wrenching on an old long hood.

And here is Ron building a car similar to mine but with a G-50 6 speed and a VR 3.6.

Fellow Pelican with the # 83 big rig above Lowyder993 made me some very cool trailer ramps.
My car is low and his custom made extended ramps work perfectly, thanks Jim!!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157947445.jpg
Back to the car...
Got the cool shirt and helmet blower installed.
Top left you can see the controls for the helmet blower and the cool shirt.
The helmet cooler reduces the temperature of the air by 20 degrees.
Not a lot except when you consider the the air inside the car might be 120 degrees.
The air intake is outside the cockpit so even if it were 100 degrees outside then the temperature of the air being forced into the helmet would be only 80 degrees.
From 120 to 80 in meaningful to me.:)
Here you can see the air intake and blower on the far right.
The cooler with the larger air hoses and smaller blue water hoses.
The water hoses circulate ice water around my torso through 50 feet of surgical tubing.
Most enjoyable while delayed in pre grid while suited up in a 3 layer nomex suit, refreshing!
Passenger seat still virgin, who will the be the first???

Well, Mike, if I make it down soon I will take a ride!!!! :)

Cheers

We redid the intake screens with SS screen.
The frames are made from 1/4 inch cold rolled steel with center mounting flanges.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157948640.jpg
Here you can see the new front fender well deflectors.
These should stop all the clag/rubber snakes from vulcanizing or pulling at the headlight wiring.
Also installed brake ducts below the new fender wells.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157948773.jpg
We decided to repeat the screen look in the back.
Leaving some FG for the license plate and a single vertical stiffener as well.
Hmm were else could we do this to reduce drag?
Perhaps on the rear bumper just behind the rear tires?
This will do for now.:)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157949293.jpg
Here is Jim Duncan being a big help designing the oil cooler plenum fences.
CF fences help direct/ram all the air into the oil cooler.
The oil coolers are sealed up perfectly now.
Kinda tough with expensive black CF, working in the shadows while making templates and making marks with a black pen.
I just used a pneumatic drum sander and followed his lines, thanks Jim, great job.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1157949041.jpg
Did some other things on the list.
Calibrated the 6 foot straight wing with increments from 2 to 10 degrees.
Installed screen to deck lid vents.
Chatter box helmet to helmet communicator installed.
Hot lap installed.
More roll bar padding installed.
Front strut divider seal between the N20 and shock oil chamber replaced.
This means front struts completely stripped and reinstalled.
One of the short Air Jack lines needed to be replaced.
Optima Battery and brain reinstalled.
Passenger 5 point belts installed.

This week John Simone is pulling molds off my prototype plus 4 inch EVO 2 front fenders.
I'll post some photos later in the week.
Next event Spring Mountain with the San Diego region PCA 9/30 and 10 /1.
Question is since prostitution is legal in Pahrump would it still be considered cheating> SmileWavy

Hey Jeff.
Jet into SAN and we'll spend a day with OTR at Big Willow.
For sure you'll be able to ride with Jack Olsen.
Maybe after a check ride with Jack they would accept my PCA TT/DE/AX driving instructor rating and let me take you along for session or two or more.
I think it's a weekday in mid November?
At any rate someday we should do this at Big Willow.
We'll have fun.
Best,
Mike
