911's take some thought to develop them on the cheap. Problems are varied, and relatively few bother to pursue it. Sketch shows that things are possible.

Obviously, not as simple as bolting up an edelbrock as I did in 928 trim. Other than cleaning, not one problem with it. Very good metering device. ....$125 years back.

Although, IDA carbs seem a bit costly as well. An add I saw recently for NOS Webers wanted $10 large. Searches for used 'bargain' webers...turn up at $4500-$5500.

When a guy can spend $150 for a quadrajet and get 95% out of his engine, it's a fascinating flat six from the standpoint of hotrodding without enormous cost and expense.

This design, while looking racy, exhibits somewhat the same drawbacks as the early attempts to mount a single 2 or 4-barrel carb in a central plenum and 6 intake tubes.

- Fuel distribution wasn't ideal (could be improved with add'l design and R&D.
- Throttle response would lag as a result of the distance from the main and accelerator pump discharge ports to the intake valve.
- Cold start and cold running issues to resolve

If individual fuel injectors are located closer to the intake valves, then air/fuel mixing in the intake manifold is no longer an issue.

A good point - but all too often fuel injection on early cars end up taking guys down a ramp with cost and myriad issues where it's not really any better than PMO. There tends to be a disconnect from vintage..

Big mystery is why no one has been able to offer a low end carb setup each side of the motor, with plenum, linkage, and cold start ability..

Two of these (or 3) each side - would handle lag and mixture problems you cite. Inexpensive single barrel carbs might surprise some people.

Single throat Mikunis, Strombergs, Dellorto, etc. carbs have been previously installed by various people. I assume they have worked after dealing with adapters, linkage and mixture settings. In addition, they're probably more adaptable/tunable than the average vintage domestic Rochester or Carter carbs (throat/throttle bores, jetting, etc.)

The average enthusiast is most likely satisfied with the factory carbs which work fine other than the cost of entry (from EFI/MFI) and needed refurbishment. In addition, the factory Weber and Solex carbs are quite tunable (less so for Solexes) with a large library of tech info as it applies to our cars.

Nice seque unless this is related to alternate carbs.

The decklid fans on water cooled 911s are most likely for the A/C condenser right above it.
