My opinion: black spoke Prototipo wheel, for the "correct" vintage/custom appearance.

Hi Markus!
ein super schönes Auto! Who welded your wheels? Was it done in the States or in De? How did you get them through the TüV (or did they not notice... :-) ). Grüße, Steve |

Salut Steve!
Wow, this seems to become a quite international thread! The wheels have been welded by http://www.felgen-service.de/ in Germany. It seems that there are just a few specialists on this planet who can do this professionally. I have not been at TüV with the wheels so far, but I hope that they will not recognize the modification À bientôt! PS: For all who are not familiar with German regulations: We have to get our cars inspected by TüV every two years in order to keep them licensed for street use. And unfortunately TüV does not like modifications at all... |

Interested in an update?
Hi everybody,
One and a half year after starting this threat I would like to share some other modifications I did in the meantime. Not surprisingly it figured out that the original transmission was a weak point. It actually did not fail but anyway I replaced it by a 1984+ ROW version with an oil cooler. It was completely rebuilt with changing the 2nd to the 5th gear to a shorter ratio and inserting a limited slip differential (all Guards Transmission parts). I also decided to upgrade the shifter assembly with the full wevo package (internal gate shift + short shift kit). The result? WOW - It is a different car now! A lot of people are starting with adding HP (as I did), but only the combination of engine and transmission makes the real deal! Another big plus was the upgrade to 3.3L turbo brakes. The original brakes are quite good but the turbo brakes make a big difference. My sleeper now stops as good as it speeds up For the moment I do not plan any more modifications. But one day it will be time for even a stronger engine. The basics (suspension, transmission, brakes) are ready for it ![]() Thank you Pelicans for all the helpful information which one can find here! You want to see pictures? Here we go... The transmission: ![]() The internals: ![]() The shifter ![]() The front brakes: ![]() The rear brakes: ![]() Take care, Markus |

VERY nicely done, Markus!
I am in the process of selling my M491 cabriolet to a gentleman in Germany. I hope he treasures the car as much as you treasure yours. ![]() BTW, in case you haven't changed your steering wheel yet, here's a pic of a black Prototipo in my '87. These just look "right" in a hot rodded '70's-'80 911.

Love it - Mine was an original Mexico Blue 911s (1974) -
Good to know on the 915 - did you keep the mechanical drive?

Thanks JeremyD!
No, I actually converted to an electronic speedo. I bought a 300 km/h unit from an early turbo which is quite funny because due to the short gear ratio 210 km/h is the highest of highs

Thanks jackb911!
I also went for a black Prototipo which is indeed one of the nicest wheels. Please let me know if I can assist you with your sales. |
