Brian, how do you like that gear shifter? Looks like a Wevo? Beautiful car.

Brian , all I can say is WOW ! I have been following your build since you sold me the ducktail in 2010 and I couldn't wait to read updates as the build progressed . You must be proud of how it is now , compared with what you had to start with . I hope that one day I will see it in person .

Congratulations !! From one Single Malt Guy to another .

Scott .

Hi Scott - I remember your black Carrera with the cool ducktail Very nice. We're practically neighbors - I too hope we get to meet someday, cruise, talk cars and maybe even enjoy some tasty beverage. Cheers!

merbesfield - it is a WEVO. Takes some getting used to and have had to make lots of adjustments to get it right, but she's like butter now. No slop or flopping around. Stiff & precise. I'm liking it.

Brian, you are truly a wizard. Amazing work on many levels, but watch out on the company you keep. Consorting with hooligans will certainly lead to no good.

Just read this entire thread, amazing transformation.

I have a question about the rust repair; many of these areas show corrosion up 'behind' the metal; in the corners you replaced the metal, but isn't there still rust INSIDE the pillar, just above that? Did you sandblast up into the pillars to treat this? Prior to paint, it looked like the car was 100% rust free, I am just wondering how you treated the rust that wasn't on the exterior, and was instead hiding in the inner panels.

Good question - the thought crossed my mind too. Short of dunking the whole car in a solution bath, I don't think blasting would address hidden rust either. I used everything I could think of that would delay the inevitable(?) - Por15, Silver Bullet, epoxy primer, rust converter, etc. You have to remember that whatever coating you apply on the underside will melt or burn during the welding process, which defeats the purpose. Weld-through primers work to a certain extent and I liberally brushed on rust converter in the many hard to reach places, like inside the torsion bar tube. Used an angled brush attached to a long broom stick for example.

I figure I did what I could to the best of my ability and if there is anything lurking underneath, it will take many, many years before it rears it's ugly self. When & if that happens, either I address it or the new caretaker will have to get intimate with the car. As you know, these cars are "always in progress" anyway. I'm hoping I'm good for at least 20-years?
Cheers!

That should go just fine! Those cast iron liners will be fine too, way over debated subject.

See that the cylinder tin mod was done to this engine. Came this way to you or did you do the mods?

Have really enjoyed your thread.

Thank you.
