the firestone tire stores in our neiborhood carries Kendall products, including NS-MP. I bought some NS-MP earlier this year.
Is it just those stores in Portland, OR region who does this?

Kendall website does have an estore accepting online orders. Also, their store finder yielded this result.

Marketers Search - ConocoPhillips Lubricants

when I did the same search for OR, it didn't show Firestone stores, however...

Got mine (Special Linited Slip) from Jegs online. However I also have a pteroluem supplier in my area that offers Kendall. So I can order in bulk (or not) and go pick up some cases or 5 gallon pails

No worries at all! Glad you got a good deal from them. I might have a line on another source...

Thanks,

After reading a few of the posts I decided to test out a different gear oil. My 915 box was very stiff and difficult especially 1 and 2nd gears around town on cold engine (and box). Often it embarrassed me at red lights as I struggled to get into gear. So nothing to loose and on recommendation from a transmission shop I changed to Statoil PS45 75W-90 with 10% ATF . Now the car shifts much easier when cold. Don't think there is any significant change when warm but that was never the issue. I don't know how much difference the ATF makes but will stick to this blend.

EDIT; I since tested with the same gear oil but no ATF. Shifting much harder when cold. Considerable difference

One big shifting trick...when approaching a stop, always gently slide the shifter into first gear - just before the car stops rolling - and leave it in first while stopped. Contrary to an old wives tale, this will not shorten the life of your throw out bearing. The TOB will, 98% of the time, out live the clutch, so no worries. Practice this technique, and add thousands of miles to the life of your first gear; and no more embarrassment at the traffic light!

I was hoping to read your comment on Statoil PS45 75W-90 with 10% ATF???

I just spoke to Maria, a CSR at Aubuchon (800.431.2712) who said they pull product from two warehouses. Her warehouse has Kendall while the other warehouse has Pennzoil. She said a few people have called about this and she will "unhook" her warehouse from the other so those who order Kendall will get Kendall and not Pennzoil. BTW, it's $4.49/ quart.

After reading Pete Z's advice on using Kendall oil, I've changed the gearbox oil in my 36,000 mile 1982 SC to Kendall Special LSD Axle Gear Lube 80W-90 (Part No 527-7737), which has has made a definite improvement to the way it shifts, especially from 1st to 2nd.
My concern is that I may have made the wrong choice as my car is NOT LSD, and the recommended Kendall NS-MP is not available anywhere here in New Zealand.
I've also found a place where I can buy BP 20-50, so hopefully I've got my oil issues under control.
Pete Z, your reading this please let me know what you think.
Many thanks,
Ash

Pete addressed this earlier and there should be no problem using the gear oil with the LSD additive if your car doesn't have an LSD.

Correct, Grant. Ash, there is no reason to not use the oil you selected. Leave it in there and have fun!

I replaced my two year old, 3000 mile Swepco with Kendall NS-MP from Aubuchon – the second shipment. I’m really surprised; shifts into and out of gear are much smoother – it seems to “glide” into gear. The car and gearbox have 47,000 miles. Previously, it took effort to get it out of third, now all shifts, in and out of gear, are two finger events. Plus, the 915 seems much quieter. I really didn’t think changing gear oil could make such a difference.

Thanks Pete!

Kendall Gear Oil

This stuff is great! Much improved in my newly rebuilt 915. Had about 50 track miles on it with SWEPCO. Kendall is going into everything.

LOL! Not being an "oilologist" I can only comment on what I know, and have learned about that works (Kendall NS-MP). I have never heard of Statoil PS45, but I have heard about people adding 10% ATF to both transmissions and engines. The reason for that truly escapes me, I have never done it, nor can I figure out why someone would want to, so...???

Was wandering why you had not answered that one

Despite having 2 jugs of Sweepco, I'll will try the Kendall before doing anything else to the car (new clutch cable and all the bushings) and post the result (within the next month unless the filling nut is not cooperating).

P.S. Just like you not being an Oilologist, I'm not a Proctologist but have been called a Trou de cul a few time

It actually will take two changes to flush out all the 201 as I only get about 3QT out when draining it warm (at least on my car, on the lift). Considering it's only about $20 per change it's no biggie.. I just went to order 2 more QTs as I have one full one left from the original 4.. and see the price at Jegs has TRIPLED!! WTF!

Anyone have a good source for around the $5 a QT I was spending?

Try this site I ordered couple of weeks ago. Price is below $5, but shipping is $10. Assume you are looking for Kendall

Find Gear Oil, Automotive Gear Oil and Gear Lube at Aubuchon Hardware
