Cobra RS Seats
Does anyone have any experience with these seats?
They look very similar to the Nurburgrings. Thanks Joe Cobra Classic RS Seats

Seats
Joe,
We have used Cobra seats of all different types for a few years and they are well made and good quality for the price. My only problem with the RS seat is that Cobra won't put seat belt slots into the sides for a 4 - point harness other than this we would use more of them. OMP have also introduced a range of Vintage Seats http://www.ompracing.it/prodotti.html?categorycode=GSEDILIVINTAGE&changelanguage=en Last edited by ix0ifan; 02-17-2010 at 04:59 AM.. |

If the RS seat is anything like their race seats in terms of quality, you should be very pleased. I have the Cobra Imola S race seat and it is of equal or better quality than similar Recaro or Sparco.

Thanks for your replies.
ix0ifan: When you use the Cobra RS seats, what brackets do you use? The Cobra brackets look like they would mount the seat pretty high up. Thanks again. Joe

Anyone know what seat brackets/rails are used for putting these in?

You can get mounts and sliders from Cobra, but they're pretty heavy.
I'm a weight reduction fanatic, so I'm making my own fixed mounts. You can get details from these guys -- very good to work with. MotorSportSeats.com - Cobra competition, technology and sport seats.

Finally got these in the other day. I like them, a lot. Now, if I can just figure out how to adjust the headrests I'd be set.

I like those seats as well....do they slide up far enough to get anything in the back? Maybe a golf bag or travel bag? Is there a option for the passenger seat to pivot forward?

Just pull them up? What?! That makes too much sense! I like to look like an idiot for as long as possible and now you've ruined it.
![]() Thanks for the tip Bear911. I guess I was just being a little too timid not wanting to force them. They're up and looking soooo much better. As for the sliding; I haven't tried to put anything back there but I would imagine it can be done with a little shucking and jiving. I think GTS makes a tilting bracket as well. If your handy you can probably fab something with hinges.

Great job. Sorry I was not able to get you the pics you asked for. I've been away quite a bit over the last couple of months. You obviously didn't need them -- your install looks great. I like these seats a lot -- but the head rest adjustment is a bit stiff. One nice hidden feature is that they are just narrow enough that they can be offset to center the drivers seat in front of the steering wheel, without interfering with the brake lever and seat belt receivers. Both of my seats are mounted about an inch inboard from the stock position. It's tight in the center, but it works. Joe

Thanks Joe! You were very helpful and patient with all my questions, I appreciate it mucho!
I'm very happy with the way they turned out look and fit wise, and they're so much more comfortable and supportive then the 30 yr old stock seats that I had. Not to mention they only weigh 13lbs each. All that's left is to take them out and clean up, paint and lube the brackets and sliders. I'll probably wait until I put in the RS carpet and door panels to do that as the plan is a total interior redo this winter. |

Those seats look great! Did you have to buy cobra brackets and sliders for them, or were you able to use the old ones off the stock seats?

How do the lap belts feel/fit/work with the high side boslters and no lap-belt holes in the sides?. Seems one would feel not well "planted-in" with the lap belt somewhat away from your torso?

Charles,
I used the stock sliders but had to make adapters out of 2" x 3/8" steel stock. It was a pretty simple "measure and drill" thing. That said I will probably make new adapters when I redo the interior, ones that are a little less bulky. I think the Cobra, and GTS, mounts are nice and I believe they offer tilting brackets as well, I just didn't see the need. So to answer your question - no, just the seats ($430 ea) and about $15 dollars worth of steel at Lowes. Will, The belts are fine. The shoulder strap fits nicely across my torso and the lap belt just sit across my belt line, plenty to keep me in the seat in an accident. For the track I think one would want a little more snugness. Also, I'm only 5'10" and 150 lbs so someone bigger/taller/smaller/shorter may have issues but for me all is OK.

I still think that a lap belt should fit snugly ...and somewhat tightly on your hip-pivot joint for safety. A bit of air-space stand-off should not be considered OK. You say it's OK for keeping you "in place during an accident". I'm sure you didn't test this theory and hope you never have to.
What keeps you snug for spirited driving and what's necessary for crash protection ( up to maybe 45 g's) ....is a completely different set of spec requirements. We used to have this kind of discussion on track forums where guys were using 5 point belts for DE's with stock seats....and the sub belt looped forward and back around the seat cushion front-edge ( instead of using a sub-belt "hole" in the seat)...and there too the argument was presented that all would be OK in accident. 'Fraid not, at least not in that case.....

Very true Will. When I got in my car today I took close notice to how the belt fit "me" in the new seats. All I can say is that it's as good or better than it was in my stock seats. The lap belt fits snuggly over my belt line, but I guess thats not hard to do with a 3 point set up. If I ever do consider serious track days maybe a new seat/belt set up would be in order, but honestly the difference is night and day between those two scenarios. I think we'd all be better off on the road with racing seats (head side support included) and 5 point harnessess, but I guess its just not prctical enough for most., regardless of the safety advantages.

Mickey:
Please do forgive me if I came across a bit obtuse but safety issues are a hot-button topic for me. If indeed the lap belt touches your body as it should with these high-bolster seats ( unlike my assumption that there was an air-gap stand-off)...then I stand corrected and probably all is all right.
