Yeah give or take - I think it was 18 hours and $543 total...

So it has been awhile - how time flies and how project's sit .

So I finally got the beast back on the ground. Everything seems to be in order except my rear indexing. I have Chucks adjustable plates which are great but somehow my knucklehead head self seemed to pull off the impossible...the car is right about 25 in the rear on both sides...but I am on the end of one adjustable range on one side and at the opposite adjustable range on the other side

No idea how I pulled that off. So I can only go up on one side and only down on the other side

So I guess I need to re-pull the bars and get them in the middle of the range. I think it needs to come down a few mm in the rear and maybe one or two in the front

Anyway here are a few pics...losts more to do but everything seemed to come out ok. I know I have no vent screen on my cowl (trying to figure out a water drainage) system for that. I might also attempt a home alignment - pretty picky about stuff like that and would rather set the car up myself.

That's a very nice, clean refurb and install. Congrats. However......

... you mentioned earlier the plan was to corner balance. You can still do it to a certain extent, but the lack of adjustable drop links on the sway bars precludes independently adjusting ride height at each corner w/o affecting all corner weights.

Just a FWIW.

Fantastic job! I love the second pic, the car looks so menacing. With all you've done to get it to this point, reindexing the rear shouldn't be too bad. Congratulations.

Sherwood - yeah figured that and I was just parusing the home alignment archives for the board - pretty dizzying. I did read that you need to disconnect the sway bars for an accurate corner balance - or very accurate. I guess I will get as close as I can with the sway bars attached.

I wouldn't mind spending a little bit of money on some tools to make things easier for alignments and it is always something I wanted to learn/do. Not sure I want to invest the time with a complete DIY setup with alot of fab and time

Most of the digital gauges are fairly inexpensive - I was thinking of using a couple of those(caster/camber) in conjunction with a laster string method for tow etc.

I have no idea how to do this but was researching. One thing I don't have is scales to see where I am at. I would like to get the ride height and weights close with a resonable alignment.

Outstanding!!!! My hat's off to you. I love your attention to detail and envy you the time and resources you have to pull it off. Hope to see you on the road some time! I figure only 1 or 2 years until I get mine back on the road!

While it is best to just buy adjustable drop links, you can get a proper corner balance be fitting a spacer shim between the chassis and sway bar bushing mount. Disconnect the bar for the balance then shim it so that you can put it on without significant force. This makes for minimum/no preload.

Really interested in seeing how you attach your bar...I've not really seen anything I particularly like aftermarket-wise so I'm thinking I'll probably build my own bar.

Just stripped is your interior? I'm currently struggling (rather trying to make myself feel better about the inevitable...) with the idea of gutting my perfectly clean stock example...your car certainly helps.

Forgot to even add, awesome looking car...you enjoying having it back on 4 wheels? Certainly understand the snowball effect...

Well it is your car...that is what I kept telling myself. I bought my 84 Carrera with 22k on it in 1998...it now has 33k on it. It was a pristine factory OEM example, concours winner, show car...blah blah blah.

After having it and enjoying it for about 10 years and doing everything I wanted to with it...it was time for a change. It can always be put back the way it was - if I want. But I will never sell it and it is mine so for the purists...look away.

It is a toy that I like to tinker with etc...I don't think it will ever be done, if it was I would get bored and opt for another project car.

The only thing in the interior are seats and a steering wheel - everything is gone. It is minimal to say the least. With that being said I have an RS carpet kit in beige sliverknit that is going in, RS door panels (those are installed) and Recaro SPG's. I kept the power windows (not much to gain with the loss there, once you convert to manual) The only heat I have is what can be forced via the engine fan (all blowers gone) I plan to use mesh screens in the footwells and manually control the heat with the levers (got rid of the auto).

There are alot of things and details on the car that took awhile to complete that most folks don't, won't notice.

I can post some pics of the roll bar once it is done.

It is good to have back on 4 wheels and am inching toward driveable. Once I set the roll bar I will have the harnesses and then will install the seats etc so I can drive it while I "finish it" The plan is to finish the outside then work on the inside.

In the fall the engine comes out and tranny to finish the project - so again it is never done so to speak.

Too cool...do you plan on having any defrost functionality? I currently have my fresh air blower out just doing a wiper swap and stuff, so much air comes in driving it as-is it almost seems one could do some sort of really simple ducting straight from the fresh air intake to the vents and get decent performance for a non-DD/track car/whatever. I really haven't looked at it closely enough to see if I'd be able to include the dash vents as well or what (and quite frankly I'm still a little overwhelmed by all of the ducting in the HVAC system currently), but I'm anxious to dig in because the vast majority is certainly coming out.

Car looks great. All that hard work cleaning up the suspension, you need a set of these to keep it all clean:

Given your location and the car's paint color....it is begging out for one of these on the door to finish it off.

I took the "take it all out route" and add back in what I want. All the defrost/vent blower stuff is gone.

I need to fab up something for the water drainage in the front ( I think I saw something from smart racing at one point...but I have the old unit and may hack it up for a drainage system if I can't sell it for anything.

I have a huge box of all the ducting - need to sell or unload at some point.
