Tectyl is not as pretty but much longer lasting; 3M has something new that is like Tectyl

Last, you could coat the Mg with an epoxy paint - but that is "cheating" isn't it?

anyway glad it worked out
Fortunately Mr. Webb, that is not true about the use of Gibbs on mag at all. I did my fan ( I think I was the original Gibbs user on board) about 7 years ago and it looks the same today with no retouches. Cellphone camera, so not sharp, but it has stayed uniform with no corrosion as is typical on magnesium.

glad it worked well for you - maybe it is the humidity in Oregon, tho I'd think Houston would be worse

is your garage air conditioned?

just did mine. Clear enamel on the fan after wire brushing and some sanding. Semi-gloss black on the housing and other engine compartment parts.

I'd like to hear more about how you achieved this look. What materials did you use, specifically on the hub? I am looking to clean up my stock fan in the coming months and love this look!

Extra fan -

rattle can wrinkle finish red.

And if I need it - it's able to go back in the car in under a minute!

Just a tech tip....I recommend NEVER using cloth or paper to cover your carbs/throttle bodies etc... One inadvertent bump of the starter and you have a big mess on your hands (yes personal experience). I use racquetballs as they are perfect size, will not get sucked in and they are smooth finish. Tennis balls with the fur on them can hold dirt and dust on them.

Clean engine!

Here's another fan and housing done by Mark Motshagen that was just installed on the engine going into my '71. Absolutely fantastic and Mark was great to work with.

Showing my ignorance here, but:

Ok - it's CIS car yes? Is that large hose correct? Is it hooked to an electric blower? What's the extra equipment being driven by the extra belt? Where's the air box? Just curious!

BTW - great looking fan. Why only 5 blades?

It looks like a mid-year with the green engine shroud, and yes it has CIS. The large hose is the cabin heat air. It is forced through the heat exchangers by the blower in the upper left of the picture.

The extra belt is running the air pump on the left. It adds extra air to the exhaust for emissions. Most have removed theirs long ago.

He must be in the middle of working on the car - the air box is there, just the air filter and cover have been removed for easy access. Also notice that the air conditioning pump has been removed from the right - you can still see the cooling radiator hoses - but no air conditioner. I assume this has also been removed for easier access to whatever he was working on.

These mid-year cars sometimes came with a 5-blade fan that is usually changed for one that moves more air. Track cars sometimes retain the 5-blade fan for less power loss.

Yes, thats a blue powder coated fan in a red car. Reminds me that I plan to paint the car a shade of blue as a future project, maybe next winter. I love the blue fan, shocks everyone else! (I've had all the red cars I can stand.)

Oui... But it's your car and if you like it, it's pretty well all that count

I've got a bunch of engine parts that a friend is powder coating for me. Here's a couple of pics he sent me on Sunday, both my 3.2 and 3.6 fans....

Desperately need to either polish up or powdercoat mine.

I want to DIY it but need to read up how hard it is to take the fan out and the process of getting it done... (i'm a complete noob). Hopefully its in my 101 book.

A lot of awesome ideas here tho!

Easy as pie, take off that big nut there and its done! Get out the phone book and need a little cash for powder coat. Mine cost $50 but not much choice of painters where I live.

You should get a prize for that photo, will make for a great after photo for contrast.
