Dash and console knobs 1979 SC

I have not seen a thread where these knobs have been dicussed. In the centre gear shift console there are two controls. One runs a fan but not sure what the second one does. As well on the dash I have two knobs, one with a red thingy on it and the other that looks like fog lights on the knob. Any explanation would be helpful. they are right beside the cigarette lighter

I don't have any console buttons but the ones on the dash are fog lights(pull out for rear fog light, if equipped), rear defroster, and the cigar lighter.

An owner's manual is a great tool to have in the glovebox. My SC didn't come with one but I ordered one from EBAY and read it cover to cover.

They come up for sale in the Pelican classifieds as well.

I believe the factory knobs that are found inthe console are for A/C. They sometimes put a speaker fader in there as well. If you post a pic someone will confirm what you have.

The second dial is the A/C temperature control.

Some models had a single rear fog light fitted. Don't see too many around, especially in Aus!

Earlier this year I got caught at night in a rainstorm on a narrow dirt road with soft edges next to a creek - and the bridge ahead was overflowing. Oh how I wished for rear foglights that night. Not the P car though; that would be a nightmare. btw the major disadvantage of LHD cars is reversing a manual car with no PS, using your non-dominant hand.

Great story. Sounds like a scene from an 80's horror movie!

Alright then , I'll contimue on. The other approach was blocked as there was a car jammed against the railings by the overflow. My 12 yo and I were on our way back from the P club committe meeting ; he had school the next day and needed/wanted his own bed. The only solution was to take a back route up over the hill using a rarely used firetrail. Now , this is very narrow , was very greasy (clay) and a steep drop off down one side about 2 ft from the wheels. In horizontal rain we crept along the rutted slippery "ledge" eventually reaching a point where I thought the trail should be - but wasn't. I backed up to turn around and started sliding sideways. He freaked!
Anyway I called home and got the # of the old guy who lives at the end of the trail. He comes out with an umbrella and boots and implores me to have faith that the track is still there , just a steep curved drop off to my left. I selected 4wd (in an SUV) and inched very carefully down. During the day I have coped with this before in a proper 4wd , at night in foul , foggy , rainy conditions it was a bit of a nightmare & a leap of faith! But , no-one died that night. And my son will have that story forever!
