that image could be reversed . Not likely if the car was crashed in Japan but how many white 959s could be wrecked in the same manner?

Awesome thread, and great work! I've just read the entire thing, and your work is fantastic! The day when this car lives again is on the horizon! It's great to see someone bring this car back from where it was, my project is nothing in comparison to this! Great work, I'll most definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Are you questioning if the 959 crash in Canada is the same car. The answer is actually no. I know the guy that owns the white one in Canada and his luckily only suffered minor damage..

Rebuilding the 959

Here is a little progress on the 959.
Tonight I did a bit of inspection on the engine. A few pics for those that have not seen the inside of a 959 engine before. I'm to do a boor scope inspection of the internals tomorrow and therefor I dismantled the head covers.

Regards,
Roar

Wow - I did not realize it was a DOHC.

Isn't the 962 a dual cam?

With water cooled heads (still has a big central fan for the cylinders) like the 962 shown.

The 959 seems like it was Porsche pulling out all the stops and saying, "Hey everybody, here's every current technological trick in our playbook we can throw at a 911 street car." It's just crazy high tech for 1987.

the 962 engine is chain driven DOHC, right? The valve covers look different than the 959.

Rebuilding the 959

Regarding the engine.
I'm probably not the person in best position to tell the differences between a 959 and a 962, but as far as I know the 959 is basically a de rated racing engine... It has pretty much the same core as the 956/962, but a few minor differences. Fan, turbos, fuel control and so forth..

Rebuilding the 959

I received a few pics today. Unfortunately the floor pan was not changed yet, the wheel housing has been welded in place properly. Hopefully the floor pan can be cut out and changed in a few weeks.. Than weld in the siil and the car be transferred to my helper with the Kevlar work.... It takes a little more time than I expected and planned, but I'm last on the work priority at the moment... Can not understand that other cars can be prioritized before repairing a 959.
I really do not have any hurry since the car is a long term project, but I certainly would have liked to complete the work this spring and get it repainted.

They both had watercooled heads due to the 4 Valve configuration.

For sure they both have the same design in terms of being water cooled heads... You can see it by the two water pumps on the forward left and right on both engines.

Marvellous design innovation, heat was the enemy and they could not control it with 'luft' alone!

This is an extremely interesting thread as it gives us an insight into the granular detail of the 959.

Truly one of the greatest cars Porsche has ever produced.

Eek, the contents of the passenger side footwell looks a little daunting!

I agere with you. But the alternative is a lot worse. It will be taken out when it is due for repaint... It such an amount of wires that you would not belive it. Will be cleaned up and taken care off shortly...
