Thanks Foggert. That was my concern and wanted to see it before going that way.

Is the vintage dim like the OEM? I would like a little more light and I can use the knob to adjust brighter or darker.
I agree, red is not that great looking.

Oh no, I tested the vintage, it is bright and cleans up the gauge look, it is just more yellow to keep the OEM look. The dim feature is all not that great but you can tell it does dim a bit, not the same range as incandecent bulbs.

My experience with the vintage was simply perfect. No need to use the dimmer. No contrast to what you see out the windshield at night and the tach is well lit and provides just the right amount of light. The only gauge that doesn't light up well is the clock, but it's more about the physics of how the bulb sits than the bulbs themselves. Great product and worth every dime.

Back in the country, fellow pelicans! Working though my PMs!
Vintage 12 volt LEDs are now available again! Sorry it took so long. I will do my best to contact everyone that inquired about them in the next couple of days. DRACO - are you happy with your upgrade after 18 months? Thank you for all your feedback - I appreciate it! |

Help! I've read various threads saying how easy it is to "simply pull/pry out the instrument" from the dash, it's only held in by a rubber gasket, but not so easy for me.
Any tips? '88 Carrera Thanks |

It is really easy, or go into your trunk and push the gauge from the back, it might just be a little tight.

Sent payment 4 days ago, and received the bulbs today! It took me a little while to figure out how to get gauges out, but the install went pretty smoothly. The lights look great! As others have said, they are a distinct improvement over the stock bulbs. Thanks, Jake, for the excellent service!

Froggert were those red LEDs from Etarga? I am interested in a set of red or amber LEDs to get an orange dash lighting similar to what is in BMWs. But if they are too dim I will do something else.

Jake,
Thanks for the quick shipping. I do have a question for the group. Can anyone help me by taking a picture of the wiring in the back for the fuel gauge (far left), the oil pressure/temp gauge and the speedometer/odometer. Ive had my gauges out for a week getting refurbed and stupidly didnt label the wires when i took them out. I have an 88 Carrera, i know that the wiring might be different depending on year. Thank you! |

Chrisdmm,
OK, here are photos of the fuel / oil level Gage (I had to replace the glass). I hope you can figure it out from the view, wire colors, etc. The bulbs I believe are in positions 1 & 4. My car is an '87, so this should be the same as your '88. For sky1jord, I use a 2-iron using the rubber handle part to push on the Gage from the "frunk" (the only use my 2-iron ever gets); start with the fuel / oil level fist, then use the opening to push the others out from behind. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good luck... |

Thank you Lyle!
Though, my fuel level/oil level guage connectors on the back of the unit look different than your picture. I found this thread as well showing the back of each unit http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/479029-gauge-wiring.html |

Take a regular butter knife. Wrap the blade with masking tape. Slip it underneath the rim of the gauge and work the gauge out. Saw this on another Pelican post and it works great! Don't forget to remove the tape and return the knife to the kitchen drawer that you took it from!

Success at last! Thanks to all who gave me suggestions. I also found an additional helpful tool:
![]() Thanks again! Also, smearing some liquid soap around the opening of the instruments sure helps getting them to slide in easier. Last edited by sky1jord; 04-30-2013 at 06:26 PM.. |
