There are details on that chassis that are unique and I'm sure the owner recognizes them. Like the black door strikers, and overspray. But I do admit its odd they would remove the stripes. maybe they did that to disguise the car. It also looks like the dash is still there so it must have been in pretty bad shape.

Horrible news!
I'm sure you have already done so but check for any tampering of the VIN tags - perhaps they have been swapped. As mentioned, check under the dash area for ID.

Why would they remove the carpet and and leave the windshield and Targa bar. Wouldn't there be some clips that hold the black rocker panel trim in place. I sure hope it's not the same car, good luck!

That's really sad. I too was really hoping for a happy ending.
Hopefully the car was well insured so that at least the purely financial part of your loss is manageable. If it were me, my goal would be to get/rebuild a car that was even better than it was. Even though the original was beautiful, I'm sure there is something that could be upgraded: get a small bumper early car, or a turbo -- whatever. It's that kind of thinking that got me into classic cars a couple of years ago: when my Toyota Camry got stolen (I know, not the same thing!), I said to myself, I can either simply replace it, and stomach the loss, or else use it as an opportunity to get something really cool. That line of thinking led eventually to my 911.... |

I am so sorry the car was found this way! I really hope the crooks are found! You and your sons had done such a beautiful job! You've taught us all a valuable lesson of the safety of our cars. All the best in the future!

I'm curious to find out what the crooks were thinking and how they went about all this, did they have an order to fill?

When I first read this thread it brought out my worst fears of owning a vintage car. I hate the thought of having an alarm, but I'm going to look into a kill switch or some sort of immobilizer.
I am inclined to agree with the other members and doubt that the picture of the tub that you posted is your car. Hopefully it will turn up in one piece. Good luck. |

why would the thief put on those wheels? Just take the good wheels and put it on blocks.

Hello from AZ. Things are turning around and hope to have another 911 soon. My friend in Scottsdale came across another car which will have it checked out Monday. My wife has been great and cant believe all the comments and support. I read a couple of the posts about it doesn't look like the same car. I can assure you it is the same car. Like many of you Porsche "nuts" I too spent hundreds of hours rebuilding the car and could tell immediately it was mine. I placed the gold engine stickers on the body in a non perfect manner as well as the door strike plates are new and are black. I regards to removing the stripes it was an attempt to make the car unrecognizable. The fingerprinting dust did adhere to the glue. No idea about the wheels, the front window was broken.
Again I really would like to post as much as I can but we were truly devastated by the whole matter, loss of the car and money. The shell is going to the insurance company and have no interest in rebuilding this car. Kids understand and we will have fun with the next project. I also would like to give my sincere thanks for offering assistance in rebuilding of donating parts, most appreciated. I will definitely keep you posted on the developments. Next car will have full replacement and LoJack without question and it's a reminder to all. Sorry for the spelling Im on a iPhone but wanted to let everyone know as some thought this was a joke or something. Take care and see you on the road soon! |

I, like many others on this post, feel deeply for the loss of your vehicle representing the money, the effort, the fun you and you kids had working on the car. It is a wake up call to everyone to take anti-theft measures to keep our cars from being stolen. I am certainly going to put a kill switch into the cars and in the case of the 70T put a heavy duty chain through the front fuchs rim. Good luck and sounds like you have moved on. Steve

A registration check on the Arizona Plate #ARM6422
shows the plate is still outstanding as of 04-29-2012 at 0900 hrs. The bad guys might use the plate on another car so keep your eyes peeled for the plate. I will watch for it in the Pacific NorthWest. Sorry about your loss. |

Devistated by your loss. The pictures and timeliness of the events really got my emotions stirred. 30 to 40years ago thieves got parts off my 69 911S. Latter a bike thief tried to kick the handlebars on my custom 750 only to break them and not the fork lock. A couple years later the bike was on consighnment at a car lot in Eagle Rock and was stolen. A coupe of years later the dirt bag was pulled over for drag racing ant the GPD ran all the numbers omn the bike. Fool didn't realize the older bike had been brought in from out of state and had the engine number recorded. Busted. He told the cops that he bought the engine at a swap meet. Too bad his record didn't
Match his story. |
