915 noise can't read any more!
So I'm nearly blind from absorbing web info on 915 tranny noises and bearings and forks and knives and spoons and the kitchen sink! My consistent and repeatable noise "conditions" apparently do not match anyone's anywhere and make no sense. Having a 915 with a relatively new WEVO Street Light clutch package I have a grating, mid range constant noise which occurs in the following scenarios: sitting idle, in neutral, depress the clutch pedal and the noise loudly appears. It's consistent in tone (rapid rattling/grating mechanical metallic mid range tone) and does not change with throttle/rpm changes. Noise goes away when clutch pedal is released. Now add that the noise also appears when in motion both coasting with the clutch pedal depressed (goes away when released) and it also appears when in motion, in gear (any gear, any RPM, same drone & tone) and you are under load accelerating. Lift throttle and it disappears. ANY TAKERS (please?)?

What's the known history for the throw out bearing and pilot shaft bearing?

more info...
the throw out bearing was in our hands and fine when the WEVO clutch was rebuilt last month. The WEVO is the 4th clutch in a year as I unwittingly tore up us 2 Sachs Power kits (no real outstanding info readily available that they're only good for about 240 rwhp w/straps!), then Patrick Motorsports assured me his modified strengthened strap clutch could handle the power (not so much), and then WEVO's clutch sheared the clutch bolts so with Hayden's input we rebuilt his unit with through bolts replacing the threaded originals. Might as well be a zipper on this thing. The noise existed from the get go with the original Sachs kit though it was very subdued back then.
I just discovered there is no noise in first gear under load and no noise in reverse. The est of the description remains accurate but there is the possibily that it is changing mechanical pitch, albeit slightly, up and down with rpms under load. I don't know the history of the pilot bearing... P.S. to all... Yes I know a G50 is righteous but can't afford it now. |
