euromeister question

hi,
i got my 8x16s today and the lips on the rims are not smooth but have a machined finish (concentric grooves), have they always been finished this way or is this particular to the new run, anyone one with 17's have the same machined detail?

thanks, ben

They've always been that way, although yours look a little deeper machined than before. (But maybe its just the extremely clear close up picture you managed to take!)

On the older ones, from more than a foot or so away, you can't really see the lines. Even from closer, most wouldn't notice them unless they were looking for them.

It's their inexpensive way of "fauxing" the Fuchs factory anodize finish.

Mclovin,
my aging eyes detected the lines and the dreaded macro along with the finger touch test proved it was not just a hallucination....but quattrorunner says smooth, wonder when it changed? not a big deal just curious.
i assume they are not clearcoated, correct?
regards, ben

I had an old set from many, many years ago (6+ years old)

They were machined with lines to give an "anodized" look.

To the touch, I think mine felt pretty smooth, though. The machining was very faint. But up close, was there for sure. I'll see if I can dig up any pictures. your machining looks much deeper/heavier than mine were, for sure.

I've seen over the years some Euromeisters that had the machining polished out, and they were smooth.

Let me backtrack, Mine were smoother by far but if that is a macro picture, they might be similar. If that pic was taken millimeters from the surface, yes, mine were like that too.

ask and you shall receive, not great photos as a bit out of focus.
the lines are not an issue, but some have said smooth..... i just notice everything... when on the site i can tell when things are a hair off level or details are off.

at full size they are clearly visible, but the wheels still look nice.
regards, ben

I thought they were nice wheels, for the price. I didn't love that machined finish, even though IMO 99% of people would never notice it, once the wheels are on the car. I think 99% of people would not be able to tell that the wheels are fakes.

But, it always bugged me a bit, and I eventually bit the bullet and bought a set of factory 7s and 9s (and had them redone to stock by Harvey Weidman). Obviously, that set is very, very nice! But in a completely different price stratosphere.

For the price the EMs are hard to beat, and it's good to see they are back.

the reason i wanted to see pictures is i should get my 17x7/9 tommorrow. your wheels look nice so the 17's should look nice also. i also got 10% off. i think the 16's were more than the 17's , i don't know why. mine were less than 700.00 with shipping. after looking at the price of fuchs skyrocket, i am really happy.

at that price i guess so! that is a killer price , i had 40 on shipping and i did not get in line before the price increase so mine were close to 500 shipped for the 2...post some pics of the 17s when you get them. best , ben

yep, i just got my 16x9 and also has the ridges.
has anyone polished these? i take it i need to sand down past the grooves but not sure. i originally planned on matching my current fuchs by polishing the lips and petals

Yup, smooth out the machining grooves and polish away.
