Yep, it was damned courageous of Ron to fill John's Ragtop with firewood.

Later, John was backing his car into my garage to use my shop vac to get rid of the wood debris...and....

Well, maybe Ron would like to tell that one. All good memories, these years later.

This thread wasn't my idea. I wasn't figuring this was going to happpen at all. I guess when you live with a guy day & night for 6 weeks he might have a better idea of what you need better than yourself

When I get through one of my stunts it calms and relaxes me for awhile after the 1 or 2 days it takes to bring my heart rate down. When it got to the point where the docs are telling my bride that she should start building a new life someone's out to get me. This is the 3rd wife message in over 10 years. They keep increasing the odds against me and box me into a tighter cage.

This recent act started 2 weeks ago. They found 4 walnut size bleeding cancer tumors and 3 others that haven't started bleeding yet on my brain. The minor up and commers is just a footnote. Terminal for that is 3-21 days.

They started 15 doses of radiation once/day and gave me high doses of steroids 4x/day. My sleep patterns and being cognitive are just dandy.

So the #'s game now with the rad & steroids is definately more than the 21 days but terminal is scattered. It could add just one day or it could add 6 months?

Being 1/2 way through the rad draws me into concern that I better be able to keep my act together after the rad is finished. If I can't drive after it's over my act isn't together. I have a tentitive May 1st launch date for a ride.

anyway....... it may be a little dragged out getting some of my posts on but I'm going to party this thread out
Ron glad to hear you are so positive and keep the good thoughts going it helps! You have my thoughts and prayers for many years of fun driving ahead of you and have been inspired and encouraged by your words of wisdom over the years I will keep you in my thoughts.

Ron - I think we met at Kurt's Picnic back in 2005 (or 6?), I brought down my black 964 and new 997S that some poor schmuck swung his door into to gash the front fender. My families thoughts and prayers are with you...

The dominant air stream is coming down from New Foundland and N Atlantic next to N Canada all month. Ocean winds are creating wild oceans from 8'-15' inside 75mi from shore. It’s a Good day. The local chatter is about a small trawler going down about 100mi off Montauk Point. The Coast Guard never received a mayday.
radio communication sucks.

I'm hanging with a new ocean boat guy my age this season. We're in our 30's. The boat is a 38ft Viking with a wood hull, glass top, two 3208 cats, tuna tower, big out riggers, and a piece of $hit..

He's spending food money to keep this thing floating. I don't care. as long as it floats it can be good enough for that day on the water.
Sometimes the old cat starters and wiring would work, sometimes the shore power would work, sometimes the onboard 110v generator would work, sometimes the hot water and frig would work. Sometimes the fuel injection would be problem free, etc.

The fish are in season.. Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Swords, etc.

A weekend outside Montauk with 2 gofers from his job for fish is now in motion. We're daytime about 90mi from our port and about 50mi off Montauk Point tip and trolling further off shore in 6ft - 15ft seas. The sky is clear and we just landed a big Wahoo.

We've been running for about 20hrs straight and I'm sick.
No big deal I get sea sick. After a boff and a nap I'm good for a strong 2-4 hrs. Then another 4hrs getting weaker till the boff, sleep, etc.. It's my routine on nasty water. Been doing this all my life.

But the gofers are a PIA.
As soon as my friend or I stop watching them at the helm they turn the boat around towards Montauk Harbor. We caught them a few times. We can watch the boat happenings from the cockpit and only need a dope on the wheel, but they wanted out. They’re scared and know other boats are going down in this weather. Screw them as long as one of us can watch them.

I'm really weak and need a good nap..
The boat is rocking in 30kt-40kt winds with the very high tuna tower making the boat whip on it's keel somewhat violently..
No big deal, BTDT

I get lost in cloud 9 and the seas slowly wake me up. But then I get a big Wake Up. at dusk.

Huh!

We lost the radio and one engine stalled.

What!

You know the engine with the only working alternator/ it stalled.

WHAT! and I think that no radio probably means very low battery voltage. $hit.

Bilge pumps on a wooden boat have to work or start bailing.

No radio, No voltage, One Cat down because low voltage caused fuel sol to close. Ship's 110 gen with 110v to power battery chargers functions but the 110v battery chargers don't.

Seas getting bigger and wilder as sun goes down. Can't do a mayday, 5watt portables are worthless out here. Bilge is slowly filling. The remaining engine is about to stall. That means we lose headway in bigger and bigger seas.
We're ____ed..

This is a real happening. I ain't kidding.

What a scene.
Then I start playing with the main 12v switches and circuits. I can't get no satisfaction. I only have a few moments till full silence.

Ahh, maybe, don't know more than a maybe. I have to try it quick.
No, move faster than quick. It has to be done past tense before remaining engine stalls.

I rip a 12ga or 10ga wire out of somewhere and run it from the running 110v generator battery bank to the main battery bank. Then I isolate the 12v on the running engine so it’s the only engine on electrics. Then I check the voltage gauge. Bingo, the engine will keep running getting enough voltage to keep fuel solenoid from closing and stopping only running engine.

I stay awake till radio has enough voltage to operate. So far so good.

New Orders from me

“Run one engine back to Montauk and wake me when we're 10miles off shore.” Therefore 50 or 60 nautical miles in growing seas at night running at 4-5 knot speed is a good rest with no hassle at the helm.

Wake Up

OK. I’m up.
“Plot course at light darkness to the harbor mouth.”

AOK at the mouth with one engine.

I say “Try the other engine.”

Dead engine starts and we warm it up.

Now the Captian has to power thru Montauk Inlet at speed because the inlet is a big washing machine from the high winds and waves. 2 engines balls to the wall are needed.

We're smiling and laughing hysterically.

Yo!

Hiroshima style war game is over

I stopped radiation yesterday. I did 10 of the 15 suggested treatments.

What started happening is that my skin on my head started turning into a sunburn type act and then I figured no more. Some extra brain cells must have been wiped out as well as teeny tumors blown apart that turns into brain debris that stays in there probably slowing me down.

The doc was great and basically stated it's a quality of life vs trying to squeeze every last second of life. It's a personal call.

So now my brain will be receiving overflow radiation for about a month [i think]

My throat, coughing, and voice was getting to the point where I couldn't talk on the phone except in a wisper without coughing violently and having to drop the conversation. This toasted throat should take 1 or 2 weeks to somewhat heal up [i think]. I was told to just do whatever I have been doing to ease the coughing so far.

With no radiation today I definately felt better. That zapping beat the S___ out of me.

The treatment was two 10 second blasts with a light show inside your head. I decribe it to friends like if you were laying in bed sleeping on your back and someone walked in and turned on bright celing lights you would be able to see the bright lights while you were waking up. That's close to same deal.

Steroids 4x day is permantent till toes up. It's time for the next numbers game.

My cancer doc put himself in charge as the boss who will start visiting me weekly at home relating to "hospice" care and check up. He said I offer him a different kind of case that little information is available on. It may have something to wife message #1 stating "It's time you started figuring a new life without your husband." That act went down over 10 years ago.

This "hospice" care is a program that starts as soon as radiation is over. Right now I need nothing and starting to feel better. Most people in my position are a mess.

So........ I have to wait out this throat pia and see what's left of my brain in a month. I'll take inventory and run a few push tests to see how much I can get away with.

I'm pushing for a May 1 ride without modifing my act
