me too!!
I'm also in the process of a stone grey / orange-terracotta interior ST backdate of my '87 Carerra. I am not copying you- or the Dutchman. But I was "inspired" by the Singer New York car.
Your car is looking amazing! (I don't have these kind of skills and have sent my car to Nick Moss at early911 in UK). |
I thought that roof looked familiar.... Trust me, those dents were on there when we got it.
Nice work, Chris! Can't wait to see it on the road. |

Hi Ben, good to hear from you! Yes, that's the roof off the '68. Once I got it down to bare metal it wasn't too bad. Mostly layers upon layers of bad body work.
The 67S is progressing slowly...still working on metal work but most of the mechanicals are ready to go. |
Hi , New to the forum and to 911 ownership .
Can I ask a noobie question - Did you change the roof as it was welded badly in the past , or are they different on long bonnet cars . I have a 3.2 85 car which will need some rust repair and if I'm going to do it properly would like to backdate it , however it has a sunroof - were the sunroof holes / dimensions the same on the later cars Thanks and great work Jon |
Love it, really nice work,

Beautiful

Your builds are always amazing. I've sent my '87 911 to Nick Moss at early911.co.uk for a 3.2 to 3.4 ST/outlaw backdate thing. I was going to go stonegrey too, but I switched at the last minute to a custom green color. Link below: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/827649-87-3-2-st-outlaw.html Submitted for your approval :) |
This ever get finished?

Hey Chris, you just can leave everyone hanging in suspense. Marriage is one thing but you have a commitment. ;)
|
He's skiing right now. I can assure you the car has seen enough progress that his lazy camera finger is the only culprit.
|
Update?
|
Building the motor right now...it will be a fitting "old and new" technology...perfect for a backdate!
|
Just don't try to keep up when it is done. Futile.

Have you been snooping around in my garage Al?
|
I some how forgot about this build....Chris, once again, outstanding work!

This car got put on the back burner while I was working on a few others but now it's getting some attention again. With any luck and maybe a miracle or two, I'll be driving it to Rennsport. We managed to get the brakes and suspension mounted to the car. 930 caliper swaps have been documented before so I won't go into detail. Suspension is a mix of Smart Racing and Elephant stuff.
I am running dual front oil coolers so I got the elephant kit. Knowing that there would be some issues on an impact bumper car but I was advised that they are minor. I want to make it clear that this a major PITA! We ended up rerouting the lines (thanks Keith!) and lopping off a good chunk of sheet metal from the drivers side fender well. Also had to redesign several of the precurved lines to the oil coolers. Anyway, it will work but it is not for the faint of heart! Wrapping up details on the interior. Seat belts are done, pop out rear quarter windows are done, gauges are done, dash knobs and switches are almost done, and I'm working on the 69-73 style door pockets today. The motor should be done in a few weeks. It's a larger displacement motor with some added kick...more details on that later. A few pics and then I need to get back to work. |
