Porsche definitely.

Maybe a few suggestions for piece of mind you can get a AAA membership in case you need a tow. Secondly, you might pack a few spare parts and maybe an ignition coil, cap, rotor etc to address that miss.

then Go For It.

I mean - is this an actual decision?

To make sure you guys aren't biased, I posted this on a volvo forum.
They even said take the Porsche.
One thing I notice is how most recommend AAA. I had never even considered it. How is that different than towing on my current plan? I mean both are gonna get the car to a gas station. AAA isn't gonna tow it back to virginia or something is it? Are there other benefits? Just curious.

Still thinking of hot librarians.

I was in Asheville earlier this week... where are you staying at? Take the Porsche but be careful if you're staying downtown about where you park it. Some areas are a little sketchy around there. Lots of great drives to do though and your uncle would enjoy the 911 I bet.

Be sure to hit Tupelo Honey downtown... delicious food!

Sure would be nice to pop the top and cruise the beaches....hmmmmmm

Either that or a 12 yo truck....

Hey emac... Yeah I know... Got the devil inside me. People on here weren't/aren't really interested in my past... Owned a few... Done a lot... Leak a little at a time.

See you on the Road.

Ron,

If you have a regular AAA card, the tow truck would take the disabled vehicle to a nearby service station. But with AAA plus, you have the option to have the car towed to a shop of your choice within 100 miles FREE. In excess of 100 miles you pay the extra mileage accordingly. If you don't have the AAA plus membership, my advise is to upgrade it before the trip. Enjoy the drive.

Thanks. I'm kind of old school and don't have a smart phone- but the idea of being able to access a forum like this out on the road didn't escape my mind today. At some point I'm gonna have to buy one. You gave me a hell of an idea- to take a garmin. Gotta see if the battery still works.

I'm gonna drive right past it and meet my uncle in Brevard, but we might get back up to Tupelo Honey. Been there myself Great eatin' and plenty of good bars there. Yeah- I agree, there are some sketchy places, but I'm gonna be driving out in the mountains more than downtown. We might even head back up to VIR to watch a friend of his.

After reading that, I think I'm gonna go for a drive after dinner...

never miss an opportunity for having the 911 on a trip.
the last thing you want is to be on a piece of road thinking "i wish i was in the 911 for this".
regularly do trips over 12hours one way in my SC.

i would have hated life if i was in my daily on some of the roads travelled during long trips.

Take the Porsche. My first drive was to leave Myrtle Beach and head for Newfoundland. Did the run in 3 1/2 days stopping only for food and a good night rest at sundown... And to stop in on a few friends along the way. No regrets at all and the 26 yr old 911 Targa with 125,000 miles was flawless.

When I first purchased my '88, I made a 12 hour drive home. I enjoyed every minute. Since then, I've made several trips of 4 hours plus, in addition to a couple of 12 hour trips to SoCal. Drove up and down the coast for a week or so, then made the subsequent 12 hour trip back.

The most ironic thing? The fact that the car actually ran better after logging all that drive time. And, it actually leaked less. These things love to be driven, and really get their legs stretched. I've owned a lot of cars in my years, but I've never seen anything like this.

I think you know my recommendation.

When I bought my '74 I flew to pick it up, then drove home - which took a day and a half. That was dumb, but the car car ran fine with no problems.

Since, and with more knowledge of the car, I have often driven it distances similar to what you suggest. This doesn't mean that my car is special, it sure isn't, but the description you give of your car tells me that you should go for it.

I'm waiting for your report of the trip when you get back home. . .
