I'll start with Magnus. Cool guy. Got to chat him up at Amelia 2 months ago. Did any of you see the coverage of his shop in Jan/Feb Vintage Motorsport's "Great Vintage Garages?" Some great pix. You can see the issue for free via your Android, Kindle or iOS tablet or phone by downloading the Vintage Motorsport app. Now for my $0.02 on Targas: I wasn't able to take delivery of the $4,294 (new) 356C Cab back when. Had the opportunity to take Euro del'y of a 901 coupe. Passed on that. (Duhh!) From when the Targa first came out, I wanted one. By the time I could afford it, I needed a 4dr sedan. Wasn't until 15 years ago I got back into sports cars. Series of MGB's, Alfas, Turner. Decided to sell last of them & found a 997.2 Targa 4S at Desert Euro. Like new. LOVED the look. Hadn't sold the Turner race car & didn't know what I'd get or how hard to sell it. By time it sold, so had the Targa. Spent 6 months looking for another. Gave up & bought Maserati. Hey! It was all about lust. Remember that sexy chick in high school when your hormones were raging. That's how I felt about the Maser, and still do. Then one night last year I'm surfing cars FS sites & bingo - here's this '97 Targa in same colors as the 997.2 that I missed a couple of years ago. Also in CA (Laguna Beach), and only 17,500 miles. Bought it, love it. The security of a coupe. The openness of a Cab. The black top look of the 991 with glass sunroof. (Or, Mercedes, or Kia [WHAT?]) And, at this point, no squeaks, rattles or shakes as the early Targas seem to get. And, if I keep it a little longer, the value will go up enough to compensate for the depreciation of the Maser. But, I still lust after that sexy car. I'll be back in it next month & can't wait. I can feel the tingling sensation already. |

^^^ Too funny!!!
By the way, it wasn't my intent to morph the thread into a Magnus discussion. He, per say, hasn't been discussed, but I used his HUGE, overly zealous fan club as a humorous example of "non technical threads posted in in the 911 Tech forum" (aka: there are many threads and posts here, complete with joint selfies, expressing great admiration - aka: nutswinging/hugging/washing - for him). That "non-tech" bit of fun was in response to javadog suggesting that this thread be moved to the "off topic discussions" forum. And several other members that also like to have a laugh joined in and enjoyed themselves. Last edited by Ronnie's.930; 05-15-2014 at 07:10 PM.. |

This thread is the best! I have laughed myself through post after post. Yeah, I could make some remarks about the coupe and targa in my family, but who gives a rats a**. I'd much rather sit back and enjoy Bob and Ron and everyone else who made this thread such great fun. I so much like the poking fun at the ultra serious/ultra stylish side of our hobby! Keep it going!

Because, as everyone knows, the internets r SRS BZNS. A little lighthearted banter never hurt anyone. Why do folks have to take themselves so fscking serious? Lighten up, folks. Or get the hell off the internet. |

"Guys, here's about 100 pics from a boss, ultra snobby, Porsche car show I just went to - check out the fancy white rocking chairs that were provided - my buttocks had never known such elegant comfort"! "Look at my rear bumper tits delete - yes the narly holes, and rubbed/worn paint that remains look like a hammered dog ****, but Im'ma fill those with rubber plugs from Home Depot - will look rad then! What an improvement!" "What oil for my 2.7/3.0/3.2 etc? And you can **** that long azz oil thread that already exists - not readin' that ****"!!!!! (sorta tech, I guess )"Guys, nana nana boo boo, I just met (and took a friggen selfie with him, to boot) Magnus - holy ****, I feel like I grew six whole inches"! *Oh wait, I'm repeating myself here (not unlike the aforementioned "hugger" threads, so more than appropriate for this purpose)! ![]() And one of my favorites, currently raging in the 930 forum; "Guys, look at the skyrocketing 930 values! Should I de-nut my car (aka: put the go slow parts back on) and park it indefinitely (under a Porsche car cover, of course)?" Last edited by Ronnie's.930; 05-15-2014 at 09:50 PM.. |

How much you wanna bet that some folks will soon proudly post up about their new or upcoming 924 purchase since you-know-who made a recent, semi-spectacle of adding one to his stable (and of course, the nuthuggers jumped right in telling him how awesome it is)!?

Food for thought, MW don't own a Targa, or if he does he isn't advertising. Personally I am a MW fan, I really like his style that has an retro classic edge without going over the top.
Damn you guys for getting this thread back on track. You do remember that coupe rhymes with poop, right?

This thread still makes me chuckle. Love it.
I want to update my opinion. On Wednesday I was driving east on I-70 from Golden (I am in Colorado). I came up on a targa that - looks wise - I would have traded my coupe for in a second. It was the first time I have seen a targa where my eye did not immediately go right to the b-pillar roof line joint. This car was filthy (I mean FILTHY). It was a wide body slant, with vented rear quarters and the big boxed rockers. It was running very wide 15" fuchs and a turbo tail. It was simply PISSED OFF looking. I could not stop staring (not a good thing at 65MPH). I did the typical dumb a$$ thing (that I hate when it happens to me) and I followed the car in its blind spot for a few miles. Very strange that when my two less than favorite Porsche feature are combined (targa/80's slant) I was totally twitterpated by the outcome! Even though many purists would have equated the thing to a rolling White Snake concert, I would have proudly driven that car. I should have talen a picture..... I think I want a slant now.

I have much love for trashy tattoo'd chics (yes, in all seriousness), but only a smattering of said emotion for the Targa - wonder what that means?!

Scott S, regarding your recent taste dilemma - perhaps you are growing a pair, BUT, I'm not sure how the "Targa" element factors into that. I will have to give this some thought!
BUTT hold the phone; was the car in question an actual Turbo, or was it one of those limp wristed, pitifully ballless, wanna-be-please, variants? If in fact it was a poser mobile that got yer package in a jingle, then you have serious problems, my friend!

Ha!
I made a good chunk of my living as a musician up until I "retired" in 2008. This began in the 80's.... so yes, I was 100% a hair band guy. This "culture" has been ingrained into me for the past 30 years - so the trashy tat girls were always my first choice. Add in a just a little bit of crazy and I was all in. ... of course that was then. I am a mature adult now. ![]() No idea on the turbo. I dont remember any badge on the car. Even if it was a poser car, it looked great. I am all about the real deal, but per my comments above, there are situations where I have no issues with some high quality Sunset Blvd bolt-on's......
