Sticky gas pedal newbie question.
Hi, when I accelerate and come to a stop the pedal sticks and revs up slightly to 2100rpm.
But if I use my foot to bring back the pedal it comes down to normal. My question is this...is the problem between the pedal cluster and the engine? I've tried cleaning and greasing up the pedal cluster. Could it be the bushings? (That's the info I gathering doing some searches on the forum) Other than that the car runs great, could it be something more serious? Porsche 911 85 3.2L Thank you in advance.

Could be the pedal cluster, but the first thing you should check is the linkage located on the transmission housing. Clean it up and lube it, then check your progress.

check throttle cross shaft on transmisson see if plastic bushing are bound up disconnet ball socket. there is a small lock clip that snaps around ball socket pop off socket then turn linkage by hand to see if it binds going to engine.

My first thought was same as has already been posted. There is also a console and linkage point behind the intake.
Tunnel rod - pivoting link on trans - rod up to engine - small link on engine - rod up to throttle body. Location varies by year but the 3.2s should have at least two throttle return springs. One clearly visible on the throttle body and one in a couple of locations under the intake manifold.

My cruise control cable hung up a few times which was exciting. Worth a look.

I don't have cruise control.
Could it be the springs (tension)? I've also heard of the old grease mixed with years of dust in the tunnel could cause the cable to "lag".

Do the easy stuff first.
Disconnect at the bell housing, then grab one end and feel for smooth operation. Then grab the other end to see if that is the culprit. If both move smoothly then clean and re-assemble and check for smooth operation. With a helper you can also check that the throttle will go full throttle as well.
