May be charging book time on shared labor jobs... For example charging 5hrs labor for rear main seal and 5hrs labor for a clutch job when they share 4.5hrs.

Jaime_73, did we happen to talk about this car/motor?

Todd

btw- 16k for a "stock" rebuild sounds like a lot. I don't see any machine work in that price even (check heads, no new valve guides, etc.)

I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around this one. If I was a reputable shop owner, I think there is a point at which common sense prevails even if the customer says "spare no expense." By that I mean if a customer is going to rack up a huge bill, even if it is all on the up-and-up, you kinda want to know they can actually pay, right? Just as a matter of doing business for a job that big, I think I'd ask for a deposit or there has to be a very realistic conversation before starting the work. When we're talking 25G's NOBODY should be freaking surprised when they get a bill. PERIOD.

Somebody F'd up hard here. We just don't know exactly who but the evidence presented leads us to certain conclusions.

Good luck getting this mess sorted.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

It's still a very large sum, but about half the current invoice. Keep the negotiation professional, but don't yield and be willing to report this to multiple sources. However, get your facts in order before you do anything - an emotional rant will buy you nothing.

I'm with Greg on this. Have a conversation with the shop. Tell them you would like to see a breakdown of the labor, if possible. Let them know that you have shown the bill to others knowledgeable of this type of work and they all agree that there must be a typographical error in the pricing. Keep the emotion out of it, go in assuming they will correct the error. Save any escalation until the shop has had a chance o make it right. No matter how it goes, let us know.

No papers signed.
Time to call a lawyer.

I like this approach. A reasoned, logical approach to resolve the situation. Give it a go.

Lawyers and threats are last and final actions, and will get ugly. Good luck.

Considering the retail shop markup, $110 seems cheap.
Parts are usually 100% marked up from mail order prices like Pelican

Sugarwood,
Most of Pelican's prices on oem service parts are identical to Porsche's dealership MSRP prices. Pelican is not selling things for half of market price.

I pretend to talk about it on monday.
Please, no offense intended, but from this post^^ and some grammar usage in your other posts, it appears that English may not be your primary language. If that's the case, the shop may have seen a chance to exploit a gap in communication between you and them. It would be helpful to all of us if you could post your emails to them, along with their replies.

His zip code indicates Ft. Lauderdale.

This could be a clue... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/796753-ppi-recommendation-fort-lauderdale-fl.html

Jaime,

You have had a lot of good advice here based on very little information provided by you.

I appreciate you may not be ready to out the shop yet but there has to be more to this story than what you have given us so far.

The Cap'n has generously offered for you to PM him so he can give you a professional opinion which would help greatly with your conversation with the shop on this matter.

I strongly recommend you take him up on his offer and or provide us with more information, before you call them!

Looking at your bill there are certainly items missing that I would expect to be there if they actually performed the work they have billed you for.

Further, there must have been a conversation with them once they had opened up your engine, there are always while you are in there questions?

Good luck with your conversation with them on monday, I think you are going to need it!

Cheers
Bill

First of all, I do not think telling the name of the shop where the car is will bring any benefit at this time. I'm not accusing anyone, especially without having tried to resolve this amicably.

Please do not try anything that might turn all this into a worse problem.

I'm not considering that there was bad faith. I prefer to believe that there was an error.
Maybe It was too early to ask for help on the forum but I did it because I needed. I know there are many professionals here who can and are helping me.

Tomorrow I'll try to resolve this issue. I promise to keep you informed.

Yes, it's overpriced.

Listen to the cap'n. Listen closely. Follow his lead.

Don't agree to a damned thing tomorrow.

Just received this email...

Quote:
Jaime, I owe you a HUGE apology, I misread John's handwriting, the 16000 labor is $6000 - $10K difference.* I am so sorry, will reprint and resend but it will be $10k less, and less tax.* (That is 48 hrs on the engine, and he had 82 hrs into it, but did not bill all the hours)* Again, I am so sorry.
