Thanks. Got a pic or 2 looking towards the rear of the car so I can see that opening? How large is the opening? Looks like we can stuff a bunch of LEDs into the opening.

Could use the existing solution from Philips. To my shock, it turns out they also have a festoon replacement.

There is a bar to the left on the top of the page where you can put your cars info in to see if it will work. I tried from '73 -'99 and it said that quote: "This does not fit your:" http://www.amazon.com/Philips-12832X1-XtremeVision-Interior-Exterior/dp/B00H8YAX1W/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Porsche%7C2&Model=911%7C10&Year=1999%7C1999&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&newVehicle=1&s=automotive&vehicleId=5&vehicleType=automotive

That Amazon cannot confirm fitment is almost surely due to the fact that they would not have data on cars this old and rare.

Seeing that there were three different (at least) centre mounted brake lights, I just would bet that they haven't tried it in a 25 year old car...

Hi, our '86 Carrera is now 29 yrs old. Philips web site does not show any LED's for older 911's.
Philips Bulb Look-up | 1986 PORSCHE 911 A friend uses 'Superbrite LED.s for his reverse lights. -WHP28-T: Cool White" They claim that they are 100% brighter https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1156-led-bulb--single-intensity-28-high-power-led/1643/ https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/ For brake lights he used these LED,s... Philips (12899RX2) Red P21/5W LED Exterior. Uniquely this is one of the ones that Amazon 's model lookup states that they are not from a 911 for '73-89. His work very well. Daniel Stern may have Hella LED's for the 3rd brake light - Just email him and ask him ....dastern@torque.net In conclusion, there are some out there that far much better than stock but non like the one's that Stoke is working on - Hands down. Stoke will have oodles of sales if they work out. Here's hoping.

They don't have my '68 Honda CL350 listed, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that they are compatible and far superior to filament bulbs and those cheap LED "tower" bulbs.

On Daniel Sterns web site he states that Honda bulbs are 25% brighter

I was unclear. I was not speaking of stock Honda bulbs.
I put the Philips bulb in my vintage motorcycle. They are brighter than stock from all angles while using much less power. They also don't die after a few weeks of vibration, like the cheap LED towers did. The important bit is that they will work in any socket for which they have been designed, regardless of whether or not they have been listed on some site. The sizes are standard. For what it's worth, Daniel Stern recommended these exact bulbs to me for my '89 Volvo 740 less than one week ago. |

I put a set of those Phillips in my 911. They work great. Just had to pull the contacts in the housing a bit and the were nice and tight. I like the fast reaction time when you hit the brakes from them too. A simple plug and play.

For the first rear turnsignal PCB that I have on my car, I removed the side marker light and put in a bulb base so I can power the turnsignal LEDs as running lights. I made 2 rows of LEDs to point to the side of the car to operate as side marker lights.
Ideally I want to steal power from the side marker light and keep the side marker light so all the LEDs on the turnsignal will be for turnsignals. I purchased a couple of off-the-shelf BA9S marker LEDs but was unable to tap power off of the bulbs. So I decided to make my own side marker light. There will be 3 pieces to this bulb: bulb base, PCB, and PCB support. Here's a mock up of the pieces that I made with my 3d printer. ![]() All put together the bulb will look like this. ![]() The fit seems ok in the side marker socket and the PCB doesn't hit the reflector. I should have the PCB in about 2 weeks. I started with 8 LEDs and expanded to 12. I'll have to see how hot these get and may have to scale back to 8.

I've heard back from all 3 guys who installed LED brake lights and it looks like the fit is ok. I'm running another 10 brake light sets and should have the boards in about 2 weeks.

Assembled the first side lights. They look cool and everything works.
Recall these were designed since I want to steal running light power from the socket to power the turnsignal lights for night running and keep the side lights. I've ordered another updated set of turnsignals to test with these side lights. ![]() The fit in the socket is perfect. The board does not touch the reflector and the LEDs do not interfere with the clear dispersion lens. ![]() The LEDs are quite bright. The circular pattern is not as clear with the dispersion lens in place. Here's a comparison of the side light LED and existing bulb. 0 degrees is directly across from the light and 90 degrees is standing behind the vehicle. The distance away from the light is 4 feet. ![]()

I used the Phillips Led and they are much better than the original.

I received 12 pairs of brake LED boards. We are assembling them now and should be ready in a couple of weeks.
Had a little fun with the 3d printer and came up with these bulb base inserts. They fit snugly in the base and are very easy to assemble the wiring plus they have a handle for assisting insertion/removal from the socket.
