Here's the same visual clip shot in the early morning.
The 2 rows of side marker LEDs (16 in all) are noticable in this video when I stand on either side of the car. I would like to still use a light bulb or LED light in the existing sidemarker bulb socket then dedicate the entire turnsignal board to turnsignal LEDs. |

For those that have the 911R tail lights that use festoon bulbs, these are the brightest LED bulbs I've found.

I just installed the LED brake light boards that I bought from Jerry and I want to express how impressed I am with his workmanship and attention to detail. This is truly a plug-and-play upgrade that no one else offers. He's obviously thought this through, from the LED boards to the mounting mechanism, and his ingenuity represents what's great about this forum. He even has a YouTube video that explains the rather simple installation process.
Unfortunately, after plugging in the first LED board and then testing it, I discovered that none of my brake lights are working, including the third brake light I installed last year. When this happened a year or so ago I traced it down to a faulty brake light switch so will try to figure this out tomorrow. I have no doubt that once I replace the brake light switch (or fuse) Jerry's LED lights will work perfectly. |

Spoke, you have one sweet 930 sir
.If I may ask, for the turn signals in your video, what are the angles of the light emitted from each LED? Is it me or do the LEDs have too narrow of a beam. Night driving will be absolutely no issue but at certain times of the day the LED's sharp cut off or dead spots could be a issue, no? A PITA PoPo/DMV worker may have a problem due to lack full illumination of the turn signal lens during the day, with the sun in the background, like dusk or dawn? I hate to be the one to rain on the parade but I am just wondering? I was behind a car that had aftermarket LEDs on the freeway, our lovely 101 FWY going west at certain spots so happens to have the sun setting right in our eyes, I swear I could not see his lights.

Good points. Let me address these one at a time.
DMV issues: There is a disclaimer on the boards that these may not meet DOT specifications. I don't have the resources to have these tested and certified. The boards are easily removed if needed for inspection or even for concours shows. Any problems with DMV inspection; remove the lens; remove the boards; pop in standard bulb and you're good to go. Tight LED 1/2 power angle: When I first started building these the only Cree C503B-RAN LEDs available in quantity are the 15 degree LED which are on the boards. There is some dispersion via the lens. I've noticed lately that the 30 degree C503B-RCN LEDs are now available in quantity. Same amount of light but more dispersed. This means less light directly behind the vehicle with more light at wider angles behind the vehicle. I will try these LEDs on the next batch of boards. I detailed the dispersion comparison of the standard bulb and the 15 degree LEDs in the first post of this thread. Here's another way to visualize the dispersion. This graph shows the amount of light from the 15 degree 911 brake LED board given off behind the car compared to the standard bulb. For brakes where the dude who's going to rear-end your car is directly behind you, this is probably ok. For turnsignals a wider dispersion may be desirable. ![]() Now compare the previous 911 brake dispersion with this one from a 914 front LED board with 30 degree LEDs. These boards are much brighter (6x) than the standard bulb mainly because there are 69 LEDs whereas the 911 brake LED has 48 LEDs and the bulb orientation in the 914 front turnsignal bucket. ![]() About the 930: Thanks. It is a really fun car to drive. I purchased the car a couple of years ago from a Pelican ad: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/462787-1986-911-turbo-930-sale.html Quote:

That looks great to me! I assume some of the leds are on for tail, and all on for stop? Or they all on but dimmer? How are you connected to the original socket? A double pole one/way bulb base? Something like this is readily available, but yours looks to fit the 911 reflector aperture exactly - very nice. How much for a set?

All of the LEDs are on for running lights as well as for brakes or turnsignals. Current for brakes/turnsignals in each LED is 20ma and for running lights is 4ma per LED. The boards plug directly into the existing bulb sockets. For the brakes it is a 1157 (BAY15D) bulb base and for turnsignals it is a 1156 (BA15S). A pigtail wire connects the bulb base to the PCB. A small piece of PCB is inserted in the bulb base and epoxied in to act as a handle to ease inserting the bulb base in the socket.

I'm interested in a set whenever you get around to making your next batch.

Spoke, will you be making one to fit the third "periscope" brake light (Cab.)?

Is there a difference between the 1157 and the 7528?
When I search for regular bulbs for an 88, it says I need a 7528, which seems to be for a more recent Euro standard. |

I'm all up for anything that makes the brake lights more visible with so many distracted drivers out there. I'd be interested in a set, or more if they also fit 914s as well.

Ok so if I am reading that correctly, it only matters on traditional light bulbs with filaments, and there is no difference in the socket.
In that case, I will take a set whenever you have one... |

The top of the periscope brake light is easily removable, exposing all of the area under it, see photo attached.
