An added resistor is not necessary when using that coil for a Bosch CDI application.

What would be the effect of a .08 ohm resistor on a >300 volt capacitor discharge Ignition pulse?

Doesn't seem to even make sense even with a standard Kettering ignition system, 0.8ohms would be a more typical ballast resistor.

Are you sure this isn't an inductor?

MSD installation guide.

0.8 ohm resistor and MUST used ONLY if you have a "points" type, Kettering, ignition system

Yes, sorry to not clarify, still running points in the car.

Running points with a CDI isn't really pertinent to the issue.

Running points to control the old style Kettering inductive coil charge system is.

In that case the ballast resistor is required to limit the 12 volt source current in the lower RPM Ranges such that it doesn't over heat the coil.

0.8 ohms plus coil primary resistance = ~15 amps.
