full vs street concours

I've seen the designation 'wash and shine' on some car shows, but what is the difference between Full and Street Concours?

The difference is the diagnosis of OCD, and actually driving the car, vs: rolling a car on and off an enclosed trailer for a show. Also, the difference is having all porsche logos aligned on the wheels within 1 degree of one another.

The basic difference is that a full concours is just as it sounds the entire car is judged inside and out including the engine. A street concours just judges the outside of the car.

Got it. I think the only reason I would be towing my car anywhere is if it just wouldn't start.

Maybe I can get mine cleaned up enough for a Wash and Shine one day!

Ha!

The full concours, only from what I have read, is massive obsession. Something like 80-120 hours to prep an already perfect car.

Just drive your Porsche and have fun...

I'm a pro detailer/Concours preparer and a Zone 8 PCA Judge.

That being said, here's the difference between the classes.

W&S;
Exterior and Interior are judged. Should take you 16 to 20 hours to prepare your car and be competitive.

Street;
Exterior, Interior, Trunk(s), and Engine are judged.
Should take you around 40 to 60 hours to prepare.
(I recently spent 20 hours detailing a 964 engine in a high mileage car that a client decided to stop tracking and concours).

Full;

Exterior, Interior, Trunk(s), Engine, Front undercarriage, Rear undercarriage are judged.

You should expect to spend 150 to 200+ hours preparing the car.

My hours are based on real experiences preparing lower mileage well cared for Porsche's. Your expierence will vary.
I work hard and want to win.
I typically take .1 to .3 points deductions on cars in Full.

Concours is a fun game of "who can make it the cleanest" in PCA.

At the National level it is also about originality.

If you're thinking of trying Concours for the first time, study your Zone's scoring sheets and look at what areas will be judged!

Next, attend any upcoming Concours or detailing clinics your PCA region is offering. Talk with other participants.

(I am hosting a Tech session for Orange Coast region next month. I love to help new participants be competitive! More fun for all who attend).

There is no secret...it takes time and being a little OCD.

If you have specific questions I am happy to answer.

For the record... My SC has 321,000 miles on it. I show it once every 5 years or so...😉

I do not have to show my car; each time I park somewhere almost everybody ogles and openly admires it.

The last time I washed it was in December.

Depends on the car. I "almost daily" my SC but I wouldn't do the same to this one.

Thanks Mr Coops. I enjoy cleaning and detailing my car.

But can you tell us the secret of getting tired CAD plated parts looking good again.

Is re-plating the only real option?

Of course it does.. I saw a Gulf Orange RSR that will go at auction about 750k-1.1M.. I was hesitant to pull the cover off to look at it..
Way out of my league............

There are two very different types of Porsches out there. We also have two very different types of owners.

Most of us are hobbyists. Our 911 is a hobby and we mess around with the car in our free time.

The we have the collectible Porsches. The RS and RSR cars are a good example. Once you get over $1,000,000 it difficult to call it a hobby. These cars are collectible objects similar to paintings and furniture.

This is most apparent in the auctions. Barrett Jackson and Mecum are for the hobbyist. RM, Gooding and Bonhams are for the collectors. Very different cars for very different people.

Both groups are fun. They're just totally different. Driving a 911 doesn't make you superior to to the person who collects Porsches. It's just two different things.

Here's an article
I did for the people who own collectible Porsches. Actually the hobbyist can learn something as well.

Agree with above, but there are many shades of grey in between the two extremes. But most of us do not have million dollar cars. Mind you, some people with million dollar cars take them vintage racing and would have it no other way.

I actually wanted a car that was not too nice, out of fear that if it was too nice, and too original, i would be doing it a disservice by driving it.

One the people have way too much free time, and the other the people have way way too much free time.

All depends on what floats your boat, I guess. The guys into it probably have those stickers that say, "If you have to ask you wouldn't understand".

I don't fully get it but I sure do appreciate looking at the result.

Also, thanks Cooper for that nice write up. 200 hours is about four 911 engine rebuilds for a pro. That is serious time.

What's your detailing rate? Am I far off that it would cost me $10,000 for you to do a concours detail?
