Great thread!

Where’s the bolt-in roll bar from?

brasch 05-05-2018 05:12 AM

Got it from a buddy, we think it’s a DAS, fits great!

brasch 05-05-2018 10:09 AM

Came across this today, it’s come a long way in 2 years

Got the interior back together, rebuilt pedal box feels great! New master cylinder and other bits will surely enhance the driving experience. But the interior view will help the most

Great weekend at Road America last weekend for spring vintage races. Met a lot of great people with the same love for our great cars... the summer driving season is finally here!

I just realized my daughter is making a funny face, she thinks my car attracts too much attention, as a 16 year old, maybe some day she will appreciate the car!

Dash wire burned up, Happy Father’s Day! Was going to take the 1972 Turbo Outlaw for a spin today and when I turned the main power switch on smoke started pouring out of the dash speaker grill! Quickly shut it down and looked for the culprit, what do those wires go to? I took out the center speaker grill and it’s to the right of the opening near the glovebox light?

That is ugly, friend. The insulation on some of the wires has worn away and there is now a short somewhere in there. I would take apart the bundle and inspect each wire. You might be able to get away with heat shrink tubing on the exposed wires, but if it's too far gone it might be worth cutting out the bad bits and replacing it with fresh wires.

is this on the same circuit as the rest of the dash lighting? i've read that the dash (interior?) lighting is not fused from the factory. seems like this makes a strong case to add a fuse.

brasch 06-20-2018 04:37 AM

I’ve been trying to figure that out, looking at the wiring diagram it’s hard to tell,

my vote is to skip the wiring diagram and use a multimeter. make sure you've separated any wires that fused together during your impromptu smoke test, and then put the meter on the glove box light and the fuse block. see where the circuit draws power. that's gotta be easier than trying to decipher hieroglyphics. (wiring diagrams for 40 year old cars)

brasch 06-20-2018 06:33 AM

Great point Chris, I am going to start digging into that tonight so I can hopefully have the car back on the road this weekend... Tracing the circuit will be the best approach and then I can see what else is connected together

brasch 06-28-2018 05:20 AM

Got all the wiring fixed and it seems to have been a typical issue from searching here where the clock/glovebox/hoodlight/foot lights get grounded on power and melt the wires. Traced them all back, replaced them and cleaned up any potential grounding issues. Good news is I was able to take Hans (who I bought the car from) our in the turbo for his 87th birthday On Sunday! He loved the feel of the boost again!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1530191934.jpg

Switching out my graphics on the ducktail from the lower RS version to the upper, cleaner version. I love having a vinyl cutter to make my own graphics!

Um...Tell me more about this vinyl cutter. I've always wanted one.

Pretty epic transformation and build!

And I LOVE that you painted this thing in your driveway. You've come this far at home, I say get a big easy-up frame draped in plastic, some fans, and furnace filters and finish the paint at home, just 'cause!! :D
