Don't need the whip.

Dude just needs a tune-up.

Humility goes a long way, especially with respect to taking a joke in stride.

Bobasaurous, the 993TT Porsche all-thread studs are the most expensive option by far (much more costly than the other brands you mentioned). I will learn you, bro!

Rich, do you have a good set of hedge sheers (thinking about your "got your back" comment)?!?!?

Spent a lot of time at Carborundum in Niagara Falls. I remember the big TRICO sign driving thru Buffalo. 80's and 90's.

Be advised, lots of us are older than dirt. Even if we had hot women, we have to say "Can you wait 45 minutes while this pill kicks in". Just happened to me. She said "Whatever, that gives you 15 minutes to do your thing since we are on the clock.
Thanks Bob.

I'm happy with my hot young wife. And cars. And business. But I'm not above stealing a car below market price from a cranky noob.

We were all noobs once.

I remember calling Daimler Benz and asked for Ferdinand Porsche because one of the wheel windings on my Lohner Porsche was on the fritz. She said (in pretty good German) We just fired him, Sir. I was shocked. I said Do you know he made like, one of the first electric cars? Really? Yes, we know that Sir, really. However, he was kind of a stinker. That's all I am allowed to say, Sir, aside from he is not eligible for rehire.

I still carry the sting.

Here she is before I lowered the suspension.

Did I miss something? I read this while thing three times and still can't find the offensive tude.

On the topic though, I unfortunately discovered a couple broken studs today on my upper cyl 5.
I was able to peek in the spark plug holes with my phone after removing the plug wire and found them.
My heart sank.
I still feel nauseous.

I'm gonna go bury my sorrow at the bottom of a bottle. Dont take your non-broken heat studs for granted fellas. They deserve to be told how amazing they are more often...

Don't worry, I didn't find the issue either. My reading skills must be weak.

Sorry to hear. Think I'll talk to my studs too tonight and tell them how much I think about them. HAHA

993TT studs here, reused.

I tried following the knowledge offered on the head studs and strength. The ARP, Raceware etc are expensive, but are the oem steel, above what an un modified 911 needs for replacement. I need to fix my car and wonder if I should buy the race level or just cheap out as I going to have a nice bill after the while I'm in there gets done?

All jokes aside, 99.9% of the experienced, professional engine builders agree that for a non-turbo engine, not built to hand grenade levels, the OEM steel studs are more than strong enough/work perfectly (and the OEM steel ones are inexpensive - several engine builders even sell used steel ones to people just wanting to replace the bottom row of dilivars). And of course, if you have a magnesium case engine, then case saver stud boss inserts should definitely be installed.

Thanks. It's a 78sc so I believe aluminum. If I'm buying the studs should I replace all or just the dilivar? I think the answer is probably that even 40yr old steal studs will break, so do them all, right?

Most people building a "regular power" engine simply replace the dilivars only. The steel ones aren't really damaged by age (unless heavily corroded for some reason) - only damaged from past over-torquing, which is highly unlikely.

If you are interested in looking into buying "not-new" steel studs, members here, like cgarr and flat six pack(Bruce) usually have them on hand.

Why would one cheap out and not replace the original Dilvar with "factory steel" when the engine is stripped down? Percentage wise does $500. make a difference? Did the factory steel studs come along after the breakage issues were discovered or did the factory turbo models use them? Our 911s will be going in for this repair soon but as far as I know our 930 is not affected with the stud breakage issue and all the while the 356 just keeps motoring along without complaint.

thanks all for the positive comments
