So now that you've done it once, doing a second one should be a breeze, right?
When should I deliver my cab-enstein for reconversion? ;) |

Its been awhile... The Bugbug gets new bumpers!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1547959707.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1547959707.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1547959707.JPG I bought the GT racing ones. The signal light buckets are pissing me off but Ill get em.. Otherwise, pretty easy and look fine. The stock stuff was HEAVY!! My oil cooler is too damn big for the hole but wahteva. Ill sort it out;) Paint after we sort out some other stuff:D |
The new bumpers look fantastic. Good choice

So the Bug is getting Turbo'd in the spirit of the BAE turbo kits. Chappy was cool enough to send me the old BAE manual, and I decided to fab it all up and go for a whopping 7lbs. The bumpers will go to paint after I shake this down at least once.

So today I took the Bugbug for a real drive.. Yesterday was the maiden voyage and resulted in the airbox popoff valve coming unglued. Like literally!:rolleyes:I heard it boost up for the first time(Awesome!) then booof!!! Anyway..
But today success! It boosts, and feels about a 1000 lbs lighter. Mission accomplished. A couple pics of the new bumpers in the wild..So far so good:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548571369.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548571369.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548571369.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548571369.jpg |
Cab > Targa... what a piece of work Speed, nicely done!
|
Awesome.
|
A package came for the Bug today ;)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1551848579.JPG That's better!!! I wanted sport seats for this car.. A fine Pelican from Calgary had these! Thanks Bill:cool: These are the perfect amount of "Old" if that makes sense.. I recovered the comfies and just wasn't happy with how new they looked. Plus well, they weren't sporties. Stoked!!!! Toying with the idea of houndstooth or tartan centers, but for now this is awesome.:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1551848579.JPG |
The new front RSR bumper/valance looks 100% better than that black flush mounted front valence with the stock bumper. I’d never before seen one like that and for very good reason. The period correct sport seats compliment the rest of the build nicely. Look frwd to seeing pics when you have the f & r bumpers painted. You’ve done a nice job resurrecting the ole Targa!

Ordered and received some Vitalonis, thought id try em out. Even mounted to the flag base I do like how light these are in comparison to the flags.. I have some Ruf style mirrors that I bought from GT Racing that obviously I haven't used yet. These have the obvious advantage of not painting the whole door again but we'll see if these stay or not. They do actually provide a rear view :P I ordered the convex lensed ones.
If these stay I may even leave em black:p or not.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1552454637.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1552454637.JPG |
Soo... After a few runs with the turbo setup, I have developed a leaky head:eek: This isn't reaaaally a surprise, after all the engine isn't a spring chicken despite it running really well. Its ok, I always intended on getting a larger displacement engine, be it a 3L or 3.8! The turbo project was a good winter project. It worked like mad! The tickle of boost made a world of difference. I can imagine if I had fairly healthy 3L it would just rock! Engine has been dropped..:D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1553662999.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1553662999.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1553662999.JPG I'm going to sell the turbo setup, soup to nuts. Cat delete pipe back, with gauges. I have another engine enroute, that I wont be able to run this turbo setup on so I figured someone can have a crack at the "kit" and I will pick away at the 2.7 for another project. |
An update on the Bug! A new engine, soon to be commissioned...

They fit mint as well. Its been too damn long since I have driven this car. Hopefully installing end of next week. |

Its short and sweet! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571367547.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571367547.jpg Sounds killer! Pretty happy with it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571367547.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571367547.jpg Time to paint these bumpers I installed 10 months ago! As soon as it stops raining out there I am putting on some miles and killing some bugs. |
What’s better boost or displacement?
|
Oh no, guess the turbo setup is already sold? :(
Great update btw! |

Drove the car today for about 3 hours, no grief! The power upgrade is really worth it. Pretty happy so far! Now maybe some big ol brakes...

Really well done.

Beautiful car - beautiful shade of orange! Well done.

Targas rule.......Some people hate them, but they are a weird Porsche/German anomaly and really unique. This was a fun thread to read and follow. Your car turned out fantastic.

So...
We have a new engine and exhaust(well a mostly new exhaust). So far, its been fantastic! Pulls like a mofo and zero issues;) The Vram is a good time:cool: I used European racing headers(Georges headers) and welded on some vbands. I had them ceramic coated , it looks pretty good and keeps the ugliness of rust at bay. The muffler setup was my quiet(er) version on the two exhausts I built for the prior engine, and I built some transitions to mate up. After almost 2 years of disappointment, I can drive this car and its a blast! . Im a happy guy! Now I can move on to other things I had planned, like some big brakes and my heat exchangers for this exhaust. The BugBug lives!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat1.gif http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1615867282.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1615867282.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1615867282.jpg |
