stumbled on this thread while on a conf call... spent the last 30+ minutes reading everything since day one: WOW
you had told me alot about it but seeing the pictures makes it real...this was an extensive project, great job!! PS: couldn't help it but notice pictures of the black coupe in the background ;) |
Great work on this targa conversion. I'm about to embark on something very similar. Mine is a 73 targa that had the structural bar cut out, in order to make room for a cage way back when..the car is a race car. I'm getting ready to cut the cage out and weld the targa bar back in. Hopefully I'm up to the task. I may start a build thread of my own.

Something tells me that this thread will soon be resurrected. Stay tuned!

About time. This thing was way cooler as a silver rag top.

Speed Metal - thank you SO MUCH for documenting this project. If not for this thread I don't think I ever would have had the balls to go forward with my conversion. Now that my conversion is done, I'm so glad I did it!
I had a great local shop do all the welding, body work, glass install, etc... but I did all the research, strip-down, planning and parts acquisition. Needless to say, with a 993 cab that has never been a Targa before there's a lot to sort out. I had been hoping that it could all be done on the interior side with no cutting of the body (as you did with yours), but that was not the case. Thankfully my guys at Auto Associates cleaned up the body beautifully - see pics below. I do all my own work on the car's mechanicals, but I just don't have the patience or welding skills for body work! Congrats on your project, this is an awesome thread!
