oh yes Brooke!...that does pop and I really like it! I'd do the strip....and that, to my way of thinking...would add just enough color/contrast to tie things together. But........I could be wrong.

regards,
al

Thanks Al!

Getting some good shakedown miles and sorting done on the car. Got the horn working (was missing the horn contact ring behind the wheel), built new, more robust brackets to support the center section of the front valance, and installed a new dead pedal. The car is running strong and I continue to sort little issues here and there.

Also I added the next little bit of red to the interior; a momo horn button.

Eastbay,

Yah, I am considering doing red door panels with the black top trim/pullhandles/door pockets, like you have.

I think this car saw a fair bit of Sun in its life and some high interior temps. As a result the glove box door cover was peeling back as was the dash trim around the fuel door pull. So I glued both back in place. Following a suggestion on pelican I used gorilla glue. While it is holding strong, I don’t think it was the best choice. The way that glue foams and expends requires careful use and some trimming and cleanup after. In hind sight I think polyurethane construction adhesive might work better and be easier to control.

I used a couple of flat pieces of wood to spread the clamping forces and not indent the foam door cover.

I used an adjustable hood prop rod to hold the pointy bit by the fuel door release in place while it glued.

Installed a dead pedal. I’ve put one of these in all my older 911’s. I’m definitely a fan of them for spirited driving.

I’m currently running a 2 in 2 out Dansk sport muffler. I’ve had good success with these in the past on smaller motors, but with this 3.6 and B&B headers I am getting a lot of resonance in the 2000-3000 rpm range. Enough to give me a headache and make me resort to earplugs. I’m going to look into alternative options on mufflers. I’m thinking maybe a Monty M21 2 in 1 out.

Really enjoying your build Brooke, and looking forward to seeing it. It’s got to haul the mail with your engine setup.

I’ll be curious about your muffler choice. My 3.2 in the 914 drones like mad in the same zone as yours, such that earplugs are needed, and I was hoping the Dansk could be a contender.

Dave,

You are welcome to borrow my Dansk sport 2 in 2 out and try it on the car and hear the results. Best way to check.

Also, a bunch if the guys have spare Dansk 2 in 1 out which is quieter than the sport 2 out. I’ll likely borrow one to test on my car if I don’t like the Monty.

I borrowed a Monty 2 in 1 out from John Walker yesterday and mounted it up last night. Haven’t driven it yet though, so will report back later.

Nice car

I have not been on this forum for years

You know that the 915 5 speed transmission is not the best transmission for an 930 with quite some power..

Ask me how i know..

I had a 930 twin turbo but i could never use first and second gear any hard at all because the 915 is to weak for a lot hp

One time did i really step on on the pedal when shifting from 1 to second gear and that with a big bang and constant neutral in all gears including the reverse..

Only thing was to replace the transmission

I would replace the headlights for Euro style headlights since i think they look so much better

I am also a fan of black interior in a black car

But your car for sure looks good

Mr Shades, you know my car is not a turbo, right? It’s a naturally aspirated 3.6 which likely makes less torque than a stock 3.3 turbo. I am confident the 915 with external cooler, 8:31 ring and pinion, and stronger side cover will do fine in this car.

I had the Bosch 044 fuel pump start to fail intermittently on me while driving. In looking for a replacement for the 044 I found it was discontinued in ‘21 and replaced by the new 200 series pump. The new 200 series pump is marketed as a bit better (15% lighter and 15% more flow) and as a direct replacement to the old 044. Be warned it is not. It has different size fuel fittings, so you can't just reuse your old connections, and they reverse the electrical connections (044 had large diameter pos post and small diameter neg post. The 200 flips that). These are minor issues, but also quite annoying for what is supposed to be a drop in replacement. The new one is quieter though, which is nice.

If your car have 260-270 hp i would not step to hard on the pedal in first and second gear

What do you think of the euro spec headlights as shown in the picture attached?
I am a big fan of the color on the 930 on the picture i posted which i found on the net

I think you 911 would look fantastic with the euro headlights and the trim rings painted in the same color as your car

Here is a link to this forum about different headlights looks on Porsche 911:

Mr. Shades, I am very familiar with the different lighting options for 911's. On my own 911's I've run H4's, H5's, Marchal Amplilux, Cibie BiIodes, Cibie hood lights, through the grill lights, valance fog lights, projectors, LED, HID, and damn near every other configuration short of a full rally pod on the hood. I do have plans to upgrade the lighting on the car, but you'll have to wait to see what it is.

Continuing to shake down and sort the car. The Monty muffler is a HUGE improvement. It is much quieter than the Dansk 2/2, but still has a nice deep tone and an authoritive growl under hard acceleration.

I found out the fuel gauge and sender are lying to me. When the gauge reads 1/2 tank, its actually empty. Found that one out the hard way. I should have believed the reserve light, which did come on.

Also replaced the sunroof switch as the old one had bad contacts on the close portion. I happened to have a spare early style (chrome surround) switch that I was able to swap. Still need to either clean or adjust the mechanism which has probelsm closing the last little bit (raising the rear edge of the panel to be flush with the roof).
