Fuel Filler Boot Replacement Help Needed
Looking for suggestions on how to remove the spring steel ring that holds the fuel filler rubber boot to the fender.
Thanks

Get around to the part where it is split in two. Work one side out and then work your way around from there. If I were you, I'd push it out the bottom to avoid scratching the paint. Looks like you already have the filler neck out.

Hmmmm, I did not even know we had this.
I did notice some day light when filling up. Now I know why. Mine is torn :-( Just ordered a new URO brand, not performance related so it should be fine :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. Getting one side of the ring started out of the channel it sits in and not mangling the car is where I'm stuck. That steel ring is seriously stiff and using something like a BF screwdriver or similar to lever it out would result in mangled paint and/or metal.
I'm hoping there is some clever way to remove that ring without doing any damage.

Is it a compression fit inward or outward? Maybe a circlip tool?

You could use a Dremel tool to cut the old ring and put a new one back when you reassemble. Or, if you go ahead and pull the old boot completely out, it may take enough pressure off the ring to allow removal. I replaced this boot when I had my car painted but don't remember it being a problem job. Good luck!

One of several things where a model airplane propeller--either wood or hard nylon---is the tool of choice here. If you don't have a local hobby shop, find out where the local RC airplane enthusiasts fly and pay them a visit. Broken propellers are useless to them but a dandy tool in your toolbox.

No, more like..........
When the allies used Patton's 3rd Army to smash the German's at the Battle of the Bulge! At least they got some exercise while walking back to Germany!

Hooked pick tool to grab it and a nylon putty knife or interior trim wedge to pry against.
If you hook the ring just in from an end, you should be able to pull it straight out and use the nylon tool to protect your paint. A small pancake flipper will work as a buffer as well. Just make sure you wash it or it ‘goes missing’ afterwards.
