Hello,
I just purchased a stock engine compartment sound deadener pad from Porsche. My question is which side should be adhered to the fire wall--the dark grey foam side or the light grey hardened side? The cover of the Sept. '04 912 Registry shows the foam side adhered to the firewall. But p.32 of the [totally essential] Feb. '88 912 issue of Excellence appears to show the hardened side adhered to the firewall. Any information will be appreciated. Regards, Enrique |

enrique, I had the same problem a few years ago. From all accounts i decided to glue the foam side to the firewall. I'm pretty sure thats correct. In this way, when the foam breaks down after time it can't make a mesh and enter the carbs like the older one. i coated both surfaces with contact adhiesive and brought them together. It's a bit tricky though.

I just installed one in my 912. It sounds like we got the same product. The gray side goes out, but when you bend it sharply. it turns a lighter gray. I preferred black, and sprayed mine with undercoat. It stayed sticky for a long time though. It will make installation much easier if you lower the engine. I put my floor jack under it, loosened the two bolts holding the engine, and let it down until I had enough working space. When I was finished, I jacked it up again and refastened the two bolts. It made the job much easier as I had room to work.
