carburator, blasting, cleaning and peening

Ok I have looked around to get my carb rebuilt and I decided to do it my self and tune them too, will buy a A/F meter ( cheaper than sending them out

here is the 2 questions( document from aircolled.net)

they recommend " sand" blasting them but with an mild media,, what is the best\ easily accesible, i already have sand blasting cabinet

as part of the cleaning process they remove the lead shot that blocks some passages and they peen lead back,, OK how do they do it, any how too somewhere,, do you need special lead or just a piece of scuba divibg weight is OK

what is the best way to unstuck the trottle plate

wow. blasting with "sand" would scare me to death. you would need to have a fine touch. perhaps "plastic" media would be a better choise. soaking them in pbblaster, marvel mystery oil, or aero kroil might do the job. if the throttle plate shafts are frozen to the bushings or the venturii, don't FORCE them!! you'll could do some real damage. home freshening is fine for a set of carbs that operate, but it sounds like you have some real issues. imho, check with davep(?) from the other "place' and see if he can steer you to a canadian rebuilder. consider the value of a properly rebuilt set of webers or dels before you spring for a set of rebuild/gasket kits.

plastic media, consult the business directory in your phone book for suppliers local to you. you may need a specificly sized hose tip to work with the media. get every bit of silica out of your blast booth, even the dust. it will contaminate the product you switch to. no ideas about the lead plug issue. if you're going to go forward, get the thottle plates to operate freely before you purchase the rebuild kits. good luck with your project.

I once had a lead plug fall out of one of my 40 IDF Webers. The car suddenly began running rough and I could smell the gas that spilled onto the engine. I stopped the car before anything happened and was able to find the leak and then the plug at the base of the intake manifold. It was sort of pill shaped and was apparently a press fit into the port. I cleaned and dried the port and plug, added a little epoxy, and replaced the plug. It worked well for years after that.

I am not sure if you can buy replacement plugs or not. I guess you should check the usual Weber parts dealers.

I don't think you want to use any kind of abrasive cleaner. Go buy a can of Berryman B-9. Take them apart and soak the parts in B-9 overnight. The stuff is toxic so don't get any on your hootus.

This site will help you:
