I am interested in using a Optima battery in my 914. Does anyone know the Group # or part # for this brand of battery? Optima's website does not list a porsche application. Thanks..I am also looking for a battery tray

The standard red top Optima you find at your local auto parts store fits using the stock clamp:

I think it is a Group 42, but I'm not quite certain on that. I believe that you want the one with the terminals swapped left-for-right as well, which would be a 42R. (If they still make those.)

The standard battery has the posts on the top. The Optimas I have bought in the past had both top and side posts.
I think I may have had to mount my Optima battery turned around backwards to put the posts in something closer to the right locations, but I may be misremembering that. I just put the ground post closer to the front of the car and the hot post closer to the back of the car, whichever way that puts the battery. --DD

I am running a battery for a gold wing in my 930 and it seems to work fine. I am going to look for the same for my soon to be in my driveway 914. It has a rating of 400cca, but actually tests in around 450cca which is more than adequate for a 4 banger. It also cranked my mustang with a 347 10.25:1 motor. I was quite impressed and was only $130 at Batteries Plus. It is an agm battery too.
