Post Performance Engine Building Clinic

I intend to offer one more clinic on building your own performance 924/944/951/968 engine. It will last four days, Thursday-Sunday. I don't know the dates yet and would like advice from people that may want to attend. It will be held in St. Louis, Missouri.
I would like suggestions on what people would like to see and are interested in. Please let me know if you have have any positive or negative advice concerning the last class.

Feel free to post here.

Thanks,

Garrity

alternatives or work-arounds to the "porsche method". like boring out the cylinders, removing and reinstalling some parts, etc. also some suspension and chassis improvements. what i can and can't swap between models without major modifications, like brake systems, etc.

Why not just buy all the parts and do it yourself? I got my hands on an '87 944 motor and have it torn down in my garage. I have a list of everything down below I have purchased or will be purchasing:

-10.6:1 2.8L JE Pistons (from EBS Racing and in possession)
-944 Head shaved and P/P (currently still being machined)
-951 injectors (still looking for some)
-connecting rods and crank (3.0L stroke same as 944S2) if anyone out there knows if i can use 944S2 connecting rods or 968 ones please inform me, cuz JE Pistons isgonna charge me an arm and a leg
-Fuel Pressure Regulator
-Huntley Throttle body (coming soon)
-honed intake manifold (on its way)

I have much more crap at home still such as the bearings seals everything. Cost me about 3 grand for all this. When I am finished I am expecting at LEAST 205-210 HP at the crank; and more after intake exhaust, ignition and Autothority ECU.

Someone tell me if 944S2 connecting rods will work with a 2.5L so i can get a 3.0 stroke. if not then a 2.8 stroke will be just fine. I am looking to get about 11:1 or more compression outta this.

EGS Machine. Is there a question in your post that you wanted me to answer? We do a lot of non-factory mods, that is correct. If you have any further questions please post and I would be happy to answer.

Sure you can do it yourself. But if you knew a few more tricks, you could get more power with little extra cost. Sounds like you are building a pretty nice engine. JE used to be a great piston maker, but since Wiseco bought them out, marginal. May want to consider another brand. Your 968 or 944S2 rods won't work well if you want RPMs and a lot of power. If you want really nice light strong rods, we have the top on the market.

What crank are you running? What bore piston?

Your friend may not have too much time for you, stray... that weekend is traditionally the weekend of the Marine Corps Ball, and every Marine I know gets tore up good... but you probably knew that.

I don't really know whats goin on, but he said he has the weekend off. He was thinking about coming home but it would be a waste since he is graduating from his job training a week or so later.

Do you know where I could get a large Marine flag?

Garrity,
i thought i saw one of the Dave951's state that you don't need the sillicium to or special boring machine to bore and polish the block. so question then is "what is the alternative process?"
On the interchangability, stuff like you statement to Eurospec. i would like to know what rods i can swap. i guess a good example would be is if the 8:1 compression on the turbo is derived by shorter rods, or machined pistons, and if i can put the 87 10.2:1 pistons in my 84 with or without rods. i think that the general info on the specs of the various engine parts would let me derive the best combination for my needs.
Thanks,
EGS

Not me, maybe Dave951M. Maybe he is talking about the chromed pistons Garrity offers.

ya, and it doesn't mean you need a broadcast-quality camera & studio setup. a good camcorder, tripod, and a good audio feed would be fine. the most important element is the guy behind the camera, knowing what to show. i'd pay for such a video, and i bet others would, too.

To EGS,

I have rebuilt more aluminum bore Porsche engines with alusil than I care to remember. Often the bore is within tolerances and doesn't need to be honed or fixed as long as the taper is good and there aren't any problems. I don't know an alternate process to the Sunnen protocol as that is what we always use. No the Turbo has different pistons with the same rod length and wristpin location as the NA cars except hte 944S2 and the 968. You should be alright with 10.2.1 pistons as long as they are factory wristpin locations and your stroke hasn't changed. I would consider using better rod bolts during your rod rebuild if you plan on keeping a heavy factory rod.

We have rods that weigh about 250 grams less each...1/2 pound and are stronger, but they aren't cheap at $895 but they are the best.
