ok here is what i got going on now. got the car mobile finaly. took it for a test drive and noticed that when i step on the throttle (in any gear) it dogs down a bit before going sometimes stalling out. I also noticed #4 plug isnt firing. checked that by pulling off the wire while running and no change. changed out spark plugs with a new set i had laying around, the old spark plugs looked fouled and the gap was way off, compared to the pre gaped plugs i had. i started the car again with the new plugs and no change i then thought it was the wire but i pulled the wire again and checked it the idiot way by sticking my finger in the hole yep it had spark (gotta stop doing that). so im up to my next check and asking if this is what i should do...
1: I have new injectors on the way. gonna try these first see if it helps. 2: Might order new fuel filter, distributer cap and rotor, and plug wires or just wait till i take vacation again and take my car to a mechanic that can do a full diagnostics to it. what do you think ? Just for the record I am never gonna mistreat my car again. too much time and money involved in fixing and replacement. sigh |

when you pulled the plug did you smell gas from the #4? if so you may not be getting enough spark power.

Perhaps you should invest in a spark tester, might save your life, lol.
On my car, I can unplug #2 or #4 while it is running, and it makes no difference, but I guarantee both are firing. Try laying the spark plug on the valve cover, and trying to start it, see if you get spark on the plug. I'm presuming you cleaned the connector inside the boot where it attaches to the plug, I guess that could be it as well.

#1 don't check for spark that way. wanna see ya around for awhile
#2 Fuel filter replacement is a must especially if you do not know when it was done last. At the same time replace the check valve at the fuel pump. #3 Visually inspect the cap and rotor for burn marks etc.. before just buying. #4 Remove the fuel rail with the injectors attached. Unplug #2-4 place a jar under #1 and crank over and examine the spray. Should be a fine mist. Now uplug #1 and plug in #2 and do the same. Do the same for #3 and #4. Do not just replace injectors on a whim too much $$ for that. Rick

when i had the spark plug out i hadnt noticed any smell of gas. so i think it might be just a cloged injector, ill have to check it the way FLA944 suggest, but i all ready order brand new ones. it also have 2 year old gas in it since it took me that long to replace the engine.
any tips on draining the gas tank? also have a new fuel filter on the way too. I also did the spark plug against the valve cover after the finger test and the spark was nice and bright. the spark plug wires are new so they werent dirty. thanks for helping

The way I drained mine was to jack up and support the rear. (Chock the front wheels) and do in well ventilated garage.
remove the fuel line at the input of the pump and allowed to syphon into an old antifreeze container ( I used 2 containers when 1 was filled swapped with another) cap and used the fuel in my lawnmower and tractor. They run on anything and easier to replace the filters. After dry I replaced the pump, filter and fuel lines (po did some funky plumbing back there that was scary) Added 5 gallons of Chevron and 1 bottle of injector cleaner. Fired up in a nanosecond and ran great.
